Job DescriptionSummary:
The Philanthropy Officer (PO) plays a key role in advancing Farm Sanctuary’s mission by cultivating long-term, values-aligned relationships with major donors and prospects. This position manages a regional portfolio of supporters, guiding them through a full lifecycle of engagement, grounded in shared purpose, personalized communication and strategic stewardship. Working collaboratively by across teams, the PO connects donor passions with meaningful funding opportunities, helping to grow sustainable philanthropic support for Farm Sanctuary’s vision and mission.
This role is remote within the Northeast with a strong preference for New York City, or an hour commuting distance away.
Responsibilities- Manage a portfolio of approximately 100–150 individual donors and prospects with capacity to give $10K+ annually, with a focus on donors capable of $25K+.
- Guide donors through the full lifecycle using personalized engagement strategies grounded in donor interests and organizational priorities.
- Conduct regular, meaningful outreach via email, phone, in-person meetings, and virtual events to cultivate lasting philanthropic partnerships.
- Develop and implement tailored cultivation and funding strategies for each donor to align their values with mission-driven giving opportunities.
- Use Salesforce and wealth screening tools to assess portfolio health, identify new opportunities, and ensure strategic focus on high-potential supporters.
- Maintain accurate and timely donor records in Salesforce, and collaborate with Development colleagues to coordinate communications and maximize alignment.
- With Director, Donor Engagement and Strategic Marketing, co‑develop and meet annual revenue goals aligned with organizational needs and individual portfolio potential.
- Prepare compelling proposals, reports, and stewardship materials that connect donor support with impact, gratitude, and shared values.
- Partner with Program and Communications teams to align messaging, deepen donor understanding, and connect supporters with meaningful opportunities to give and act.
- Ensure timely acknowledgment and benefit fulfillment, while celebrating the partnership and agency of donors at every stage of engagement.
- Highlight donor stories and elevate supporter voices in collaboration with Communications, reinforcing the relational and transformational nature of their giving.
- Collaborate with leadership and board members on select donor relationships, supporting high-level strategy and personalized engagement when appropriate.
- Provide regular reporting to department head and other leadership, sharing donor insights and field-based feedback to inform team‑wide messaging, campaign development, and donor experience design.
- Assist with event logistics and execution, and serve as a values‑aligned ambassador of Farm Sanctuary at donor events and community engagements, building relationships and representing the organization’s mission with clarity and compassion.
- Minimum of 4-5 years of nonprofit fundraising or relationship management experience, with a focus on individual giving and major donor engagement
- Demonstrated success in cultivating and deepening values‑aligned donor relationships that lead to sustained philanthropic support
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt messaging for diverse audiences and represent Farm Sanctuary with authenticity and professionalism
- Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities independently and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
- Ability to clearly articulate Farm Sanctuary’s mission and impact in ways that inspire and connect with supporters
- Experience developing and refining donor engagement strategies at the portfolio level, informed by data and aligned with organizational goals
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across teams, and to engage with senior leadership and board members as needed in support of donor cultivation
