Family Services cares for individuals who are isolated, abandoned, or just need help developing the skills to live successfully.

Join our Day Treatment Program for Children and Adolescents as a part-time Registered Nurse (RN). This rewarding opportunity includes one 6-hour shift per week and provides the chance to make a meaningful impact in the lives of children and adolescents.

Job Summary

Within the limits of the Day Treatment program, policies, and procedures, the Registered Nurse is responsible for implementing health/medical-related activities related to client and/or program needs, in accordance with DHS 40 regulations and Program Administration (Manager/Clinical Director/VP of program area). Other agency-approved health/medical-related services will be provided as requested and authorized by the President and/or Vice President.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate medical services to ensure clients' health and medical needs are being met.
  • Monitor medication compliance on clients, as needed, including communication with physicians and pharmacies. Review medication errors.
  • Complete and document regular health assessments of all clients. These assessments include: vital signs, heigh, weight, lung sounds and monitoring of side effects as specified by the prescribing physician.
  • Conduct client education groups, including a minimum of five to six hours per group per week at Day Treatment.
  • Convey information obtained through observations at Day Treatment to the prescribing physician and Day Treatment staff regarding medication effectiveness, PRN (as needed) medication and overall client functioning.
  • Provide continuing education (formal and/or informal) for site staff regarding general medical and/or medication issues and regarding individual clients as necessary.
  • Supervise medication distribution through training and oversight of the on-site staff. Review all documentation of medication distribution.
  • Adhere to practice guidelines and ethical standards for Registered Nurses.
  • Participate in treatment meetings by providing medically relevant information regarding clients.
  • Conduct annual Universal Precaution and Epi Pen training for required programs agency-wide.
  • Other duties/tasks as assigned by Clinical Director and/or Vice President.
Qualifications and Requirements

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

Preferred Education:

Minimum Experience:

1 year of experience working in a clinical setting with youth OR training in providing services to youth with mental illness or severe emotional disturbance.

Required Licensure:
Current Wisconsin state licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse. CPR and Basic Life Support Instructor Certification or License.

  • Non-judgmental attitude toward clients. Ability to recognize and control one's own biases.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organization, time management skills, and the ability to meet work demands on an independent basis.
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License, with reliable personal vehicle. Maintain required auto insurance and an acceptable driving record.
  • Family Services can obtain malpractice insurance on your behalf.
  • Maintain eligibility to practice and active status with your licensing board through the State of Wisconsin Department of Regulation and Licensing.
Physical Demands

Sedentary position with lifting to 25 lbs. Must be able to go to and from varying locations. Twisting, turning, standing, and sitting are required.
