Traveling TIG Welder

Direct Hire | St. Cloud, MN | Starting at $27.00/hr → $35.10/hr after training | Travel up to 80%

Our client is seeking a Traveling Electrical TIG Welder to join their team in St. Cloud, MN. This is a direct-hire opportunity combining aluminum TIG welding with hands-on electrical field service at power generation facilities across the United States, including nuclear and non-nuclear plants.

Candidates must currently reside in Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota, Iowa, or Wisconsin.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Starting Pay: $27.00/hr during the first three weeks of training
  • Pay After Training: $35.10/hr upon successful completion of initial training
  • Additional increases available through the Bus Duct Technician Apprenticeship Program up to 50HR

What You'll Do

This position is approximately 80% electrical bus duct field service and 20% TIG welding
, depending on project requirements.

  • Perform aluminum TIG welding on horizontal and vertical pipe ranging from 1/8  to 1  thickness
  • Inspect, maintain, install, and refurbish electrical bus duct systems
  • Clean, paint, silver-plate, and refurbish bus duct components
  • Install bus duct systems, including rigging, alignment, and torquing
  • Read blueprints, technical documents, and detailed work procedures
  • Follow company, customer, and site-specific safety requirements
  • Complete accurate field documentation and job records
  • Work closely with foremen and crew members to complete projects safely and efficiently
  • Complete required computer-based training and testing
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
Travel & Schedule
  • Travel approximately 80% throughout the United States
  • Typical assignments last 2–8 weeks
    , with some projects lasting 3–6 months
  • Participate in emergency outage response and be able to mobilize within 24 hours
  • Approximately 6–8 emergency calls per year
  • Outage schedules may include 6 days/10 hours or 7 days/12 hours
  • Both day and night shifts may be required
  • Heaviest workload typical occurs during spring and fall outage seasons
  • A REAL  valid passport is required for air travel
Qualifications
  • 2+ years of professional TIG welding experience
  • Experience welding aluminum or stainless steel
  • Welding certification from an accredited school preferred
  • Valid driver's license
  • OSHA 10 certification required before starting
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical documentation
  • Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and industrial environments
  • Willing and able to travel extensively
  • Ability to become certified under company welding procedures, including SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Pre-Employment Requirements

Because this position supports critical infrastructure and federal projects, employment is contingent upon successfully completing:

  • Criminal background check
  • Drug screening, including marijuana
  • DOT physical and obtaining a DOT Medical Card
  • Pre-placement physical examination
  • Requirements necessary to obtain unescorted access to nuclear power facilities
Physical Requirements
  • Stand and walk for extended periods
  • Climb, crouch, bend, and work in industrial environments
  • Work in confined spaces and varying weather conditions
  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Wear required PPE
  • Travel extensively by air and vehicle
  • Successfully complete all required medical screenings and physical examinations
