Mobile Trailer Technician
The Mobile Trailer Technician is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining commercial trailers at customer locations, roadside service calls, and fleet facilities. This role requires strong mechanical skills, the ability to work independently in the field, and a commitment to providing safe, efficient, and professional service to customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform inspections, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on commercial trailers.
- Respond to roadside service calls and customer locations in a timely manner.
- Repair or replace trailer components, including:
Brakes Suspension systems Lighting and electrical systems Landing gear Wheel seals and bearings Tires and wheels Doors, roofs, and trailer bodies - Conduct preventative maintenance inspections (PMIs).
- Troubleshoot and repair air brake systems.
- Weld and fabricate trailer components as needed.
- Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and inspection reports.
- Ensure all work complies with DOT, OSHA, and company safety standards.
- Operate and maintain a mobile service truck, tools, and equipment.
- Communicate repair findings and recommendations to customers and supervisors.
- Manage inventory of parts and supplies carried in the service vehicle.
- Participate in on-call or after-hours service rotations when required.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Experience in trailer repair, diesel mechanics, automotive repair, or a related field.
- Knowledge of air brake systems, suspension systems, and electrical troubleshooting.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work in various weather conditions.
- Strong problem-solving and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred:
- Technical or vocational training in diesel or trailer maintenance.
- Welding and fabrication experience.
- DOT inspection certification.
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Previous mobile service or field technician experience.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull heavy components.
- Work in outdoor environments and roadside conditions.
- Stand, kneel, bend, crawl, and climb for extended periods.
- Safely operate power tools, hand tools, and diagnostic equipment.
