Security, Crisis Counselor

St. John’s Ministries’mission is to honor the dignity, restore hope,and create lasting change for those experiencing homelessness or housing instability in the Green Bay community. Weprovide services across four locations.

At our two seasonal emergency sheltersof lastresort, we provide adults experiencing homelessness with a safe place to sleep during the harsh winter months.

At the Micah Center and Wellspring, our two daytime resource centers, we equip adults experiencing homelessnes – as well as community members at-risk – with the tools to achieve self-sufficiency.

Our vision is that through a spirit of familiarity, rapport,and trust, each person will leave better than they came.

The Security Staff work to provide a safe, comfortable environment for the shelter guests, staff and volunteers.

• Performs screening of guests and their belongings as they present to shelter
• Screening guests for their ability to provide self-care
• Performing routine screens of the shelter and shelter grounds
• Monitoring guest behavior, recognizing and deescalating potentially threatening situations
• Communicating guest issues to the Shift Lead
• Build rapport with shelter guests and engage in conversation with guests on a regular basis
• Completing other tasks as needed

• Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness and co-occurring mental health and/or substance use disorders
• A strong desire to serve others in the community
• A positive attitude
• A calm demeanor when dealing with challenges
• Reliable and punctual for scheduled shifts
• Ability to work well as a member of a team
• Ability multi-task and prioritize tasks
• Take initiative to address issues as they arise
• Comfortable working independently and managing time effectively
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills

• Mobility:
  Regularly required to sit, stand, climb stairs, walk for extended periods of time
• Lifting:
  Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Computer Use:
  Perform tasks involving typing and computer use

• Safety Protocols:
  Follow safety protocols, including the use of PPE, to minimize health risks
• Supplies:
  Cleaning supplies are utilized to help prevent the spread of cold and flu viruses, ensuring a healthier environment for everyone
