We're looking for an enthusiastic Aquatics Fitness team member to lead safe, energetic, and motivating aquatic fitness experiences for participants of all abilities. In this role, you'll instruct engaging classes, promote proper exercise techniques, and ensure a safe, welcoming environment in the aquatic center. You'll also help with class preparation, participant check‑in and attendance, fitness orientations, and the overall care and upkeep of aquatic facilities and equipment.
This part time position works up to 18 hours/week, typically in the morning hours. Based on education and experience, the hourly pay range for this role is $14.28 - $20.40.

Summary / Primary PurposeThe Aquatics Fitness Instructor provides water aerobics instruction, monitors and educates participants on fitness and safety. Develops and instructs safe, fun, energetic and highly motivational exercise classes for all fitness and skill levels.
Responsibilities- Develop and instruct safe, fun, energetic and highly motivational exercise classes for all fitness skill levels using the aquatic center. Offer alternatives during classes to accommodate different levels of fitness.
- Educate participants concerning safe exercise techniques and monitor safety.
- When applicable, verify class participants are rostered to ensure drop‑in fees were paid and record class attendance.
- Prepare appropriate music, equipment and hand‑outs for each class.
- Provide/assist in aquatic fitness assessments, orientations and tours.
- Assist in the development of systems that safeguard all facilities, supplies and equipment related to the aquatic fitness programs.
- Ensure the attractive appearance, operational function and general upkeep of the aquatics facilities including equipment and furnishings.
- Must be at least 18 years old for instructor position.
- High school degree or equivalent.
- 1 year of experience teaching group exercise programs; aquatic environment preferred.
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- American Red Cross Adult/Child/Infant CPR/AED/First Aid (or equivalent) to be obtained within 60 days of hire. Current certifications through ACE, ACSM, AFAA, or NSCA or any unique certifications pertaining to a specialized group exercise class or format (Silver Sneakers Splash, for example) is preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of water aerobics teaching strategies and the incorporation of music, tempo and rhythm.
- Ability to interact with co‑workers and the public in a positive, professional manner.
- Ability to motivate class participants.
- Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.
- Ability to use pool noodles, water vests, water free weights, water barbells, and other pertinent equipment.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to be physically active in an aquatics environment; to stand; walk; sit; swim; tread water; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
The primary duties of this job take place in a busy public Aquatics Center. The noise level will be high. Temperatures will be above normal room temperature in a high‑humidity environment. This position will have exposure to chemicals and fumes typically found in a pool environment, as well as exposure to bodily fluids and other potentially infectious materials.
