Job Summary
Assists customers and cuts meat to specifications for variety, size, quality and trim for sale. Assists in daily operations in meat and seafood departments. Increases customer confidence and loyalty by promoting consistent and compliant operating conditions. Provides fresh and appealing products with courteous, knowledgeable and prompt service. Executes merchandising plans as outlined in department planners, toolkits or event packs while mindful of merchandising standards, product levels, shrink, and sales trends.

- Creates an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated to increase customer confidence and loyalty.
- Prepares and packages food products and processes customer orders to their specifications; processes fresh meats, smoked meats, seafood, random weight, lunchmeat, frozen food and salted meats to production standards.
- Utilizes peak time performance cutting lists to cut and trim all products as directed by company standards.
- Properly wraps, weighs and prices product as needed. Properly cubes, slices and grinds meat as needed.
- Operates department equipment and tools.
- Ensures customer requests and special orders are fulfilled. Performs duties of meat/seafood counter clerk as necessary.
- Promotes trust and respect among associates by collaborating, promoting teamwork, and communicating company, department, and job specific information.
- Stocks and rotates department products to ensure freshness and date control; restocks and uses supply items efficiently to eliminate waste and maintain lowest supply cost. Receives and breaks down meat deliveries. Keeps work area clean, orderly and free from safety hazards. Maintains awareness of inventory/stocking conditions and reports discrepancies.
- Reviews and inspects products for quality and freshness and takes appropriate action. Uses production planning tools to accurately produce fresh products and ensures discarding or markdown processes are followed to reduce shrink.
- Ensures product is held at the proper temperature per food safety guidelines and retains documentation of temperature logs per policy.
- Ensures company standards for safety, proper food handling practices, sanitation and productivity are maintained. Adheres to all regulatory compliance requirements pertaining to food safety, USDA & COOL, and DOA. Executes product recalls and withdrawals in a timely manner. Reinforces safety programs by complying with safety procedures and inspects and identifies unsafe conditions to report to store management.
- Notifies management of customer or employee accidents. Reports all safety risk, issues, and illegal activity.
- Ensures adherence to wage and hour policies and regulations. Cultivates a culture of safety within the store. Ensures self and all associates are working safely and have received necessary safety training.
- Ensures Hazardous Assessments are posted and that Personal Protective Equipment is available and utilized by all associates executing tasks within the department, as required.
- Ensures equipment is in good repair; reports and assists with remediation of safety hazards within the department.
- Performs other job‑related duties as assigned.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Authorization to work in the United States or ability to obtain the same.
- Successful completion of pre‑employment drug testing and background check.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal, motivational and communication skills.
- Knowledge of basic math.
- Ability to handle stressful situations.
- Possess adequate knife handling skills and knife speed.
- Knowledge of cutting, traying, wrapping, and labeling.
- High School / GED.
- English required;
Spanish preferred. - 0‑3 years supervisory experience minimum.
Retail – Meat/Seafood. Physical demands include standing or walking, manual dexterity, repetitive movements, reaching, lifting up to 70 lbs. Occasional sit, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and climb up to 10 ft. Work may involve indoor, outdoor, cold, freezing, heated, and wet/humid conditions. Safety risks include twist backs, working with hazardous equipment, sharp objects, loud noise, skin irritants, and exposure to chemical cleaning solutions.
Equipment includes cutting machines, scanners, scales, registers, cleaning supplies, PPE such as gloves, goggles, back brace, and protective gear. Lifting requirement 70 lbs.; pulling requirement 250 lbs.
Varied shifts. Occasional overnight. No travel required.
