Industrial Art Teacher
Description of Duties:
The successful applicant will be expected to teach students in courses aligned with woodworking and construction technology and Wyoming State CTE Standards. We have a 3 course sequence of classes aligned with woodworking and construction technology. The teacher needs to be well-versed in providing instruction and setting expectations for shop safety, proper use of tools, management & organization of shop tools, equipment, materials, planning and designing projects for construction, creating and reading working drawings to scale, calculating bill of materials, and developing a plan of procedure to build projects.
Essential Functions
* Develops and administers Industrial Arts and Construction curriculum consistent with school district goals, CTE standards, and educational objectives.
* Promotes a classroom and shop environment that is safe, organized, and conducive to hands-on learning, skill development, and student engagement.
* Teaches knowledge and skills in construction fundamentals, including measurement, blueprint reading, materials selection, tool use, building techniques, and basic carpentry.
* Provides instruction in the safe and proper use of hand tools, power tools, machinery, and construction equipment in accordance with safety regulations and district procedures.
* Develops lesson plans and project-based instructional materials and translates them into practical learning experiences that reflect real-world construction applications.
* Supervises students in laboratory/shop settings and construction projects to ensure adherence to safety protocols and proper use of equipment.
* Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, technical skills, and project completion, and modifies instruction to meet individual student needs, including students with special needs.
* Maintains an organized shop/classroom, including inventory, maintenance, and proper storage of tools, equipment, and materials.
* Integrates career and technical education (CTE) skills, workplace readiness, problem-solving, and collaboration into instruction.
* Ensures that student conduct conforms to school and district policies and establishes standards of behavior necessary to maintain a safe and productive shop environment.
* Coordinates with other professional staff, CTE programs, and administration and participates in faculty meetings, committees, and professional learning activities.
* Maintains accurate records of grades, attendance, safety training, certifications (if applicable), and student progress in accordance with district procedures and applicable laws.
* Encourages parental and community involvement and may collaborate with local industry partners, when appropriate, to support career readiness.
* Continues to acquire professional knowledge and remain current in construction practices, safety standards, instructional methods, and CTE program requirements through workshops, trainings, and professional development.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment

Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
* Knowledge of construction fundamentals, including basic carpentry, building techniques, blueprint reading, measurement, materials, and tool use.
* Knowledge of shop safety practices, OSHA principles, and proper operation and maintenance of hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment.
* Knowledge of current teaching methods, project-based learning, and Career and Technical Education (CTE) instructional practices appropriate for secondary students.
* Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, safety regulations, and district policies related to student supervision, equipment use, and workplace safety.
* Skill in instructing and supervising students in a shop/lab environment while maintaining a safe, organized, and productive workspace.
* Skill in demonstrating proper tool use, construction techniques, and safety procedures through hands-on instruction.
* Skill in classroom and behavior management in both instructional and shop settings.
* Ability to design and implement engaging, hands-on lessons and construction projects aligned with curriculum and CTE standards.
