Senior Autonomy Validation Engineer

Caterpillar is looking for a Senior Automation Validation Engineer to develop, test, and troubleshoot autonomy software systems used for autonomous machines. This role focuses on onboard system validation, including Planning, Perception, Positioning, and supporting infrastructure such as calibration, simulation, analytics, and machine learning pipelines.

• The position includes a strong quality focus on thorough test planning and execution, with documented communication of issues.
• Advanced data analysis and systems analysis to troubleshoot complex issues from test or customer sites and to improve overall systems performance.
• Provide technical status updates, test plan reviews, and collaborate closely with other autonomy validation engineers, support teams, and product support.
• Stay up to date with industry trends and new technologies through continuous learning and engagement with conferences and papers.

• Software Product Testing: Extensive experience in software vehicle product testing; design, plan, and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure software quality and adherence to requirements.
• Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of mining technology trends, directions, regulatory considerations, and major issues; apply this knowledge appropriately.
• Problem Solving: Ability to recognize, anticipate, and resolve organizational or operational problems using appropriate tools and techniques.
• Software Development Life Cycle: Knowledge of the SDLC and ability to use a structured methodology for delivering new or enhanced software products.
• Technical Troubleshooting: Ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, applications, or operation.
• Education Requirement: Bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering or Computer Science curriculum.

• Experience with autonomous systems and on-machine validation.
• Experience with Vector tools (CANape and CANalyzer).
• Linux operating system experience.
• Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Engineering, or related field.

• The primary location for this position is Green Valley, AZ (Tucson Proving Ground).
• Domestic relocation assistance is available.

• This position will require up to 10% travel.
• This role requires working onsite five days a week.
