The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Department of Parks & Recreation, Prince George’s County is currently seeking enthusiastic applicants who enjoy working with preschoolers, school-age children, teens and young adults to be a Summer Program Assistant Director in inclusive camp settings (including campers with and without disabilities).

Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities include assisting the Camp Director with the summer programs for participants ranging in ages 6-17, some of whom may have disabilities, and the day‑to‑day operation of an inclusive comprehensive program. Duties include assisting in training, supervising, and evaluating staff and volunteers, providing supervision to program participants, developing, planning, and implementing an inclusive thematic curriculum/lesson plans for the program, special events, and evaluating the program.
This position works closely with parents and M‑NCPPC supervisors to ensure a safe, secure and customer friendly environment, promoting cooperation and coordinating with Prince George’s County Public Schools personnel.
Participates in pre‑service training and end of the summer evaluation meetings. Answers all issues from parents and handles any concerns, oversees, and reviews records of attendance, completes incident or health log documentation, and inventories equipment onsite. Responsibilities include the day-to-day supervision of camp/playground/teen participants. The Assistant Director will take on ALL the responsibilities of the Director in the Director's absence. Assists in training, supervising, and evaluating staff and volunteers.
Enforces program rules of Youth Camp Safety Standards. Works closely with parents and in some locations the Prince George’s County Public Schools personnel. Ensures a safe, secure and customer friendly environment on site and on field trips. Assists in the oversight of program leaders, conducting daily activities and the production of the weekly calendar. Responsible for establishing and maintaining a good rapport with participants, parents, and other staff.
Staff will assist with trip supervision in accordance with Youth Camp Safety Standards.
- The ideal candidate will possess 1 year of experience with youth in the field of parks and recreation, physical education, childcare or a related field, as well as supervisory experience.
- Candidates must be at least 21 years of age.
- All summer program staff are required to attend pre‑service training, Youth Camp Safety Standards training, food service training (where applicable), and obtain CPR and First Aid certification prior to the beginning of camp.
- Must enjoy playing and interacting with children.
- Pass a Maryland State background check.
- Positions are filled on an as‑needed basis. Candidates are encouraged to contact the facility of interest to inquire about specific hiring needs.
- These positions are seasonal and do not include a benefits package.
- Salaries are dependent on experience.
- A criminal background check will be completed prior to hire.
