Position: 25-502. RF Systems Engineer – Mid-level

Teltrium is seeking a mid-level RF Systems Engineer to support the development and implementation of a Small Sat Relay System in support of a NASA program. The ideal candidate will have expertise in RF systems design and satellite communication technologies. This role will involve working with cross-disciplinary teams to ensure the successful deployment of the communication infrastructure, including satellite payloads and ground station integration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and analyze RF communication systems for the Small Sat Relay System project, including spaceborne and ground station components.
  • Conduct link budget analyses and dynamic range calculations to ensure optimal performance across S-band, Ku-band, and Ka-band frequencies.
  • Develop end-to-end communication system simulations using MATLAB.
  • Support trade studies for satellite antenna configurations and technologies.
  • Assist in the selection and integration of high-power amplifiers (HPA), software-defined radios (SDR), and other RF components.
  • Develop and validate SWaP (Size, Weight, and Power) estimates for satellite communications payload and associated subsystems.
  • Support testing, troubleshooting, and verification activities for RF systems.
  • Provide technical documentation, reports, and briefings to stakeholders.
Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.

Experience:

5+ years of experience in RF system design, satellite communications, or related fields.

Strong understanding of RF communication theory and satellite communication protocols.

Experience with software-defined radios (SDR) and high-power amplifier (HPA) integration.

Proficiency in simulation tools such as MATLAB.

Knowledge of regulatory and compliance standards for satellite communications.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Role/Work Schedule

This is a full-time, on-site position in Greenbelt, MD.

Preferred Skills
  • Experience with spaceborne RF systems, including GEO and LEO satellite communications.
  • Familiarity with ground station operations and network architectures.
  • Experience with RF testing and validation.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity measures related to satellite systems.
  • Experience with developing requirements and with risk management.
  • Familiarity with the NASA project lifecycle.
