Brookside Gardens – Event Monitor/Lead (Seasonal)
Come join us on the Events Team at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, MD. Brookside Gardens is seeking a highly enthusiastic seasonal Event Monitor/Lead. The Event Monitor/Lead will assist with private event and rentals at the Gardens. This position is year‑round, with most events happening between March and October.
Our ideal candidate is energetic, enjoys being outside, interacts with people, and has an outstanding work ethic with great attention to detail. The preferred applicant will have basic knowledge of how an event runs and experience working a variety of events; on‑the‑job training will be provided as necessary.
The Maryland‑National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M‑NCPPC) is a six‑time National Recreational and Parks Association Gold Medal Award Winner. This commission manages one of the largest park systems in the Washington, DC metro area with 415 parks and over 37,000 acres of parkland serving a diverse population of more than one million residents.
What The Job Will Involve- Assists with setup and breakdown of tables and chairs.
- Closes off areas of the garden for private use.
- Interacts with event guests and vendors in a friendly and helpful manner.
- Interacts with visitors in a friendly and helpful manner.
- Monitors and assists with Photo Permit patrolling.
- Additional duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or GED.
- One year of customer service experience.
- Attention to detail, responsible, and personable.
- Excellent communication and computer literacy skills.
- Ability to work weekends and evenings.
- Ability to give and follow directions.
Specialized training and experience is necessary for those jobs requiring specialized equipment operation in grounds and facility maintenance, specialized program leadership and supervision, and technical clerical activities.
Working ConditionsPrimarily works outside. Exposed to weather, wildlife, and potentially harmful insects (for example, bees, hornets, wasps, etc.). Must be able to stand for a duration and lift a minimum of 25 pounds. Must be available evenings and weekends. A minimum of 30 hours per month is required when available.

2026 Benefit Summary For Seasonal Intermittent EmployeesThe following information is a summary of benefits extended to all Seasonal employees of the Maryland‑National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M‑NCPPC). This is for informational purposes only and is subject to change.
Limited Benefits For Seasonal Employees Health Insurance PlansYou are eligible for specific health insurance benefits if you worked, on average, 30 hours per week during your first 12 months of employment or from October 3rd to October 2nd each subsequent period following your first 12 months of employment. This equates to 1,560 hours over a 12‑month period. If and when you are eligible for benefits, you will receive notification directly from the Health & Benefits Office.
Eligible Employees Pay 35% of the health insurance plan premium and The Commission Pays 65%.
