Position SummaryThe Senior Parks/Facilities Maintenance Worker position is at the Polk Street Maintenance Facility in Hyattsville, Maryland. This role encompasses various responsibilities within park maintenance, ranging from trash management to landscape care, and from playground upkeep to facility maintenance.
Work Hours & Location- Work Hours are 5:30 am – 2:15 pm
- Position located at the Polk Street Maintenance Facility in Hyattsville, Maryland.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on athletic fields, including mowing, fertilizing, aerating, and irrigation.
- Prepare athletic fields for various sports and events, including lining fields, setting up goals, and ensuring all equipment is in place and good condition.
- Monitor and maintain irrigation systems to ensure optimal watering schedules and promptly address any issues or malfunctions.
- Operate and maintain various types of maintenance equipment, such as mowers, tractors, aerators, and other specialized turf equipment.
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations and guidelines to provide a safe environment for both workers and field users.
- Assist in setting up special events, provide general assistance to park visitors, and assist in monitoring programs and events.
- Conduct regular inspections of athletic fields to identify and address any issues related to turf health, soil conditions, and overall field quality.
- Perform seasonal weekend work and schedule adjustments as required.
- Work in environments exposed to weather, dirt, waste, odors, caustic chemicals, pesticides, wildlife, and potentially harmful insects.
- Ability to lift 100 pounds is desirable.
- Pass Commission medical examination.
- 18 years of age.
- Two (2) years of experience in groundskeeping, building maintenance or park maintenance, semi‑skilled trade work (HVACR, plumbing, painting, masonry, electrical, carpentry).
- Equivalents:
Education and experience totaling two (2) years. - Valid driver’s license in accordance with State and Commission rules; license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions or points that could limit the ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform required driving duties.
- Eligible for medical, drug and alcohol testing.
- Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds (desirable).
