The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA’s missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology.
Our research focuses on understanding basic processes which occur in solar and stellar flares through analyzing data, developing theory, and conducting computational studies. Specifically, we are seeking to understand what mechanisms are involved in the production and transfer of radiation in the flaring atmosphere. We use data collected from various ground- and space-based instruments and work closely with teams that operate these instruments.
Current research projects include studying how ion beams may heat the atmosphere during flares, investigating how varying electron and ion beam parameters affect the radiation produced during flares, and examining how white light is produced in flares.
