Overview
The Adoptive Parent Mentor is responsible for providing support services through education, access to information, group facilitation, resource sharing, peer support, and advocacy to adoptive families. In addition, Parent Mentors will assist in providing outreach for the MD Post Permanency Program.
Qualifications and Education RequirementsLived experience as a foster and adoptive parent.
Preferred Skills- Understanding of trauma informed parenting practices.
- Familiarity with the unique issues to the adoptive population and commitment to child and family mental health, child welfare, foster care and adoption.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a team and independently.
- Ability to navigate and build relationships with adoptive families.
- Ability to prioritize and problem solve.
- Ability to communicate and express ideas clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others, both clients and colleagues.
Each employee is required to complete (and maintain as necessary) a physical exam to include a TB screening, a criminal background check in identified jurisdictions, Child Protective Services Registries check in identified jurisdictions, and orientation training.
