This position will work the third shift (11pm to 7am) and will be required to work weekends. This position may also require working additional and/or different shifts as needed.
Job OverviewThe DePauw Police Officer is a fully sworn law enforcement officer per Indiana code 21‑17‑5. Officers provide overall safety and security of the university community and its properties. Officers must complete the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board certification and maintain certification annually. DePauw Police Officers enforce federal, state laws and university policies. Officers provide proactive patrols, respond to calls for service and emergencies, and provide educational programming for a safe campus environment.
EssentialFunctions
- Enforce the established rules and regulations of DePauw University and the laws of the State of Indiana, including traffic and parking regulations.
- Conduct proactive mobile and foot patrols of university-owned buildings, facilities, common areas, streets, and identify vulnerabilities to maximize safety and security.
- Respond to criminal and non‑criminal complaints/incidents, initiate appropriate action, and conduct investigations within primary jurisdiction and extended jurisdiction as policy dictates.
- Arrest without process any person who commits an offense within view, as defined in the Indiana Criminal Code.
- Document incidents using established reporting procedures and forms; prepare written cases for the University Community Standards and the Criminal Justice system when necessary.
- Provide emergency services, public relations services such as information access, escorts, vehicle unlocks, and jump‑starts.
- Provide security, traffic control, and aid in emergency readiness at various events.
- Provide or partner to provide safety education and awareness programs for university constituents.
- Maintain proficiency in university security technology initiatives, including routine inspection for proper operation.
- Assist with performance evaluations and staff development, including training needs and aptitude for daily tasks.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.

- Education:
High School Graduate or GED required;
Associate degree or higher in Criminal Justice or related area preferred. - Experience:
Higher education background and/or law enforcement training preferred. - Computer
Skills:
Capable of learning records management software and proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps (Gmail, Drive, Calendar). - Communication:
Ability to read, listen, comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write and communicate simple correspondence. - Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
