About Putnamville Correctional Facility:
Putnamville Correctional Facility is a medium-security facility in Greencastle, Indiana, with a capacity of more than 2,500 incarcerated adult males. Established in 1914, the facility has earned notable environmental and community service awards. Programming includes The Last Mile, which offers training in coding and multimedia production. Additional programs focus on education, parenting, and vocational development. Incarcerated individuals are encouraged to build skills that support re-entry success.

Staff maintain a safe, structured environment focused on rehabilitation.

Role Overview:
As a Maintenance Technician at Putnamville Correctional Facility (PCF), you'll support daily repair and preventive maintenance in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry. This Monday-Friday role offers steady day shift hours from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, and strong safety practices. PCF operates its own powerhouse with steam and boiler systems; while this role doesn't directly support those operations, you'll have opportunities to learn and expand your technical skill set.

Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience. Depending on the retirement plan you choose, the total compensation value of a $42,900.00 salary, including the State's retirement contributions, can reach approximately $69,822.98. This highlights the full value of your benefits package, beyond your take-home pay.

A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
Solicit cost estimates or cost proposals. Estimate costs and work hours for maintenance projects. Oversee and participates in preventive maintenance and repairs of facilities Maintain accountability of materials, tools, equipment, and vehicles. Ensure compliance, of self and assigned personnel, with all appropriate protective and safety requirements Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.

Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures. Workday attendance at assigned worksite(s) is an essential function of this position.

What You'll Need for Success:
This person must have the following requirements to be considered for employment:
Broad knowledge of electrical systems, carpentry, plumbing and painting trades. Ability to plan, schedule and supervise job sites. Ability to fill in for other foreman to ensure the operation of the department. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints and other remediation plans and documents. Thorough knowledge of standard practices, processes, materials, procedures, and the ability to use tools and equipment of the various trades, such as carpentry, plumbing and electrical.

Thorough knowledge of the OSHA standards, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), occupational hazards and safety precautions required of the various trade areas. Ability to plan and estimate project proposals in terms of equipment, man hours and costs. Ability to endure exposure to inclement weather. Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow. Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.
