Substitute Van Driver

  • Safe transportation of students in a van carrying no more than 9 passengers.
  • Picks up children at various locations and transports them to and from school according to prescribed route and schedule.
  • May provide transportation for field trips and other school-sponsored activities as assigned.
  • Ensures student safety by adhering to safety rules when loading/unloading, ensuring seat belt use, and providing assistance to students with disabilities or those requiring help to enter or exit the vehicle.
  • Complies with federal, state, local, and district laws, regulations, and policies applicable to this position.
  • Follows all posted speed limits and safe driving practices.
  • Makes use of discipline techniques as appropriate and reports student misconduct to the proper authority.
  • Maintains confidentiality of District information, including student data.
  • Keeps an up-to-date route schedule, student roster, student counts, mileage reports, and an emergency information sheet for each student in the vehicle.
  • Timely submits required documentation or reports on passenger numbers, trips, hours worked, mileage, and fuel consumption.
  • Ensures transportation of only authorized passengers and discharges them only at authorized stops.
  • Physically checks vehicle at end of route to ensure no children remain.
  • Maintains a good relationship with students, parents/guardians, bus aides, monitors, and district transportation personnel.
  • Exercises responsible leadership when working with students.
  • Conducts and documents daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the assigned vehicle, checking fluids, air pressure gauges, temperature gauges, and other systems.
  • Maintains vehicle log and performs daily fueling and cleaning, including windows, trash removal, and floor cleaning.
  • Observes mandatory safety regulations and follows the preventative maintenance program; reports malfunctioning equipment and mechanical failures promptly.
  • Reports any accident with complete information and names of all pupils on board.
  • Attends trainings as directed or required by law and conducts mandatory emergency evacuation and safety drills.
  • Enforces regulations against smoking or eating in the vehicle.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Commercial Driver’s License with “S” endorsement
  • Valid Driver’s License
Requirements
  • High School Education
  • Work Experience:

    6–12 months in pupil transportation
  • 100% Pupil Transportation
