Job Summary
Assist the school bus or other school vehicle drivers to safely transport children, including students who are physically and/or mentally challenged and require adult assistance.
Responsibilities- Ride in assigned school transport to monitor conduct and maintain safety and discipline.
- Direct loading and unloading of students to prevent congestion and unsafe conditions.
- Adhere to safety rules when loading and unloading children.
- Ensure students are seated appropriately and use seat belts.
- Properly assist students with disabilities or other students in need of assistance during boarding and disembarking.
- Ensure students' medical equipment and wheelchairs are properly handled and secured.
- Assist students in and out of car seats when necessary.
- Maintain a positive relationship with students, their parents or guardians, drivers, aides, and other district transportation personnel.
- Exercise responsible leadership when working with students.
- Maintain discipline using appropriate techniques and report student misconduct to the proper authority.
- Maintain confidentiality with all district information, including student population data.
- Familiarize with and comply with students' positive behavior support plans and related accommodations or services during transportation.
- Communicate with proper school personnel and seek guidance on students requiring special accommodations.
- Comply with district policies, guidelines, and all applicable state, federal, and local laws and regulations.
- Work a split day schedule in accordance with school arrival and dismissal times for assigned routes.
- Assist in keeping the vehicle clean and orderly, and conduct a thorough inside inspection after each run.
- Attend any in‑service programs related to transportation and other training as directed.
- Provide first aid, CPR, or other emergency procedures as needed.
- Education Level: High School.
- Work Experience:
6 to 12 months of previous public education experience. - Licenses and
Certifications:
First Aid/CPR/AED proficiency;
Valid Driver’s License.
