The Village is seeking candidates for Firefighter/Paramedic. The Firefighter/Paramedic is responsible for fire suppression, fire inspection, vehicle and fire station maintenance, hazardous material response, rescue operations and emergency medical services. The Firefighter/Paramedic position requires a 56‑hour work week, with 24‑hour shifts.

Include all current fire certifications, the EMS license, any educational degrees, and copies of your Paramedic license, Wisconsin Firefighter I certification and CPAT certificate. Those currently enrolled in Paramedic school are encouraged to apply.The Village also accepts applications for lateral transfers; previous service will be evaluated to determine commensurate pay and vacation time. Human Resources in consultation with the Fire Chief will have final determination for placement on Local 1777 CBA wage and vacation schedule.
2024 Wage Schedule- Start: $21.53 per hour / $62,682.64 annual
- After 1 year: $23.50 per hour / $68,421.59 annual
- After 2 years: $25.47 per hour / $74,160.63 annual
- After 3 years: $27.44 per hour / $79,899.48 annual
- After 4 years: $29.41 per hour / $85,638.47 annual
- After 5 years: $31.38 per hour / $91,377.45 annual
Pursuant to the Collective Bargaining Agreement in effect. Reside within the corporate limits or within twenty (20) miles of the corporate limits of the Village of Greendale, within one month after completion of probationary period.
This position requires an eighteen‑month probationary period.
Applicants will be required to submit to a medical examination consistent with the requirements of the position, after an offer of employment and prior to appointment. This exam is designed to reveal any medical condition that might put the firefighter at increased risk to self or others and to demonstrate freedom from any physical, emotional or mental condition that adversely affects performance of essential functions, with reasonable accommodation.
All candidates will be fingerprinted and a record check performed by local, state or federal authorities. A conviction is not an automatic bar to employment.
Career Development- Wisconsin Fire Inspector 1 Certification (NFPA‑1031) (new employees must obtain as soon as possible at the Chief’s discretion)
- Wisconsin Firefighter II Certification (NFPA‑1001) (new employees must obtain as soon as possible at the Chief’s discretion)
- Wisconsin Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator Certification (NFPA‑1002) (new employees must obtain on their own as a condition of employment)
- Wisconsin Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator‑Aerial Certification (NFPA‑1002) (new employees must obtain as soon as possible at the Chief’s discretion)
- Attend seminars/classes recommended by the Fire Chief.
- Maintain adequate firefighter proficiency in all assigned areas per department training standards, including all certifications/licenses throughout entire career.
- Respond to alarms as a member of a firefighting company and perform a variety of firefighting functions, as the situation demands.
- Operate and perform maintenance checks on all Fire Department vehicles and equipment.
- Respond as a member of a medical team to provide basic or advanced emergency medical care to residents.
- Prepare written reports and maintain records under supervision of the company officer.
- Participate in daily training exercises and classroom lectures.
- Conduct fire inspections in various occupancies in the village.
- Perform duties as a Fire Apparatus Driver and Pump Operator when assigned.
- Perform duties as a certified EMT‑Paramedic or Basic according to criteria and standards set forth by the department when assigned.
- Maintain cleanliness of station and maintenance of apparatus, tools, equipment and all other fire department property.
- Conduct demonstrations, tours and public speeches on fire safety, fire prevention, CPR, fire extinguishers, first aid and other subjects to the public.
