Respiratory Therapist, Pulmonary / Respiratory Care
Job Responsibilities
Assess patients, clients, and families and recognize normal parameters, deviations, and abnormalities in physical, emotional, developmental, and behavioral status as it relates to cardio‑pulmonary needs using a family‑centered approach to care. Plan and prioritize care to meet patient, client, and family needs. Collect clinical data, utilize decision trees and guidelines, match formal knowledge with clinical events to make appropriate decisions. Demonstrate clinical judgment and technical skill competence for patient, client, and family care in accordance with CCHMC policies, procedures, and standards.
Document care in compliance with established practices. Identify goals and outcomes for health. Direct interventions toward goal attainment related to cardio‑pulmonary health. Evaluate effectiveness of care. Use critical thinking to make appropriate care decisions and coordinate with the healthcare team. Implement patient care standards and access procedures. Facilitate patient and family learning with structured education based on the Plan of Care.
Collaborate with the healthcare team by representing patient and family needs, supporting ethical considerations, and contributing to interdisciplinary meetings, rounds, and shared governance activities. Apply evidence‑based practice and research to respiratory care, integrating theoretical knowledge with practice for infant, child, adolescent, and adult patients. Demonstrate competence in respiratory care skills, problem solving, critical thinking, and prioritization. Seek professional growth and further education as needed.
Qualifications
- RT I:
Associate’s degree in a related field or equivalent, 0+ years of related work experience, RT License, Registered RT, Graduate of a CoARC‑approved respiratory care program. - RT II:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field, 2+ years of related work experience, RT License, Registered RT. - Primary
