Job Summary
Department/Unit: ACCU Nurse Practitioner (Acute Care Certification) or Physician Assistant. Hours/Shift: Full Time - 40 hours/week, Day/Night Shift. Benefit Eligibility:

The Acute Care Cardiology Unit (ACCU) is part of the Heart Institute and provides comprehensive care for medical and surgical cardiac patients, including heart and heart‑lung transplant. It also serves as an overflow area for medical‑surgical patients. The patient population ranges from newborns to adults and consists of 24 beds. Modalities used include noninvasive monitoring, cardiac telemetry, oxygen, high‑flow nasal cannula, inotropic and antiarrhythmic drug therapy, NIRS, complex drainage tube management, and mechanical/ventricular assist devices such as Berlin Heart, Heart Mate II, Heart Mate III, and Syn Cardia.
Responsibilities- Patient Care
- Perform history and/or physical exams on patients presenting for care in area of expertise.
- Assess and diagnose illnesses, including chronic and acute conditions.
- Formulate, document, and monitor a treatment plan.
- Order and monitor therapeutic interventions including diets, laboratory, radiological and diagnostic tests as deemed necessary.
- Provide clinical consultation and order interdisciplinary consults.
- Prescribe medications in accordance with Federal and State Law & Rules and CCHMC policy.
- Maintain competency in subspecialty practice, skills and procedures in accordance with Joint Commission standards for focused and ongoing professional practice evaluation.
- Outcomes Identification and Planning
- Develop outcomes as measurable goals that provide direction for continuity of care and consistency among providers.
- Prioritize, evaluate, and modify individualized comprehensive plans of care.
- Involve patient/family/caregiver in realistic outcomes and plans of care.
- Consider risks/benefits, costs, clinical effectiveness, current evidence, and clinical expertise to formulate interventions.
- Incorporate new knowledge and strategies to initiate change when desired outcomes are not achieved.
- Maintain documentation and update goals and plans accordingly.

- Make appropriate referrals and discuss recommendations with patient/family/caregiver.
- Order and/or perform appropriate treatments, therapies, and procedures based on current knowledge.
