Position: Registered Nurse I/II, CICU (Experienced Nurse Only)

Position Overview

Registered Nurse – Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) – Heart Institute (G6), Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

Shift: AM & PM rotation, 24 to 36 hours per week. Full‑ and part‑time positions available.

About the CICU

The 36‑bed CICU serves critically ill newborns, children, adolescents, and adults with congenital or acquired heart disease. Patients include those who have undergone cardiothoracic surgery, heart or lung transplant, and recipients of advanced therapies such as ECMO and ventricular assist devices (VAD). The unit also cares for patients recovering from cardiac catheterizations, transplant recovery, and complex cardiac conditions such as pulmonary hypertension.

What

You’ll Do as a CICU Nurse
  • Deliver high‑quality, compassionate, relationship‑based care to critically ill cardiac patients.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to implement individualized care plans.
  • Serve as a key resource to families, providing education and emotional support.
  • Manage complex high‑acuity cardiac cases, including ECMO, VAD, transplant recovery, and postoperative cardiac care.
  • Maintain and build critical care competencies in a state‑of‑the‑art facility.
  • Participate in unit‑based councils and shared governance activities.
  • Advocate for patient safety and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications
  • Active Ohio RN license (registration in other states required if preferred).
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (critical care or cardiac preferred).
  • BLS certification required; ACLS and PALS preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Strong communication, critical‑thinking, and team collaboration skills.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.
