Job Description
American Greetings is seeking a strategic and hands‑on Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to lead our EHS programs across U.S. manufacturing and distribution facilities. This role is critical in ensuring regulatory compliance, driving a culture of safety, and minimizing environmental and operational risk.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in environmental regulations, OSHA compliance, hazardous materials management, and industrial health and safety within a manufacturing environment. Partnering closely with plant leadership, Corporate EHS, HR, Legal, and Compliance, our ideal candidates will design, implement, and manage comprehensive EHS policies and programs that protect our associates, our communities, and our business.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Manage EHS issues at all manufacturing facilities in the US.
- Establish and monitor US plant‑wide EHS performance and adopt/revise policies, procedures and programs necessary to control risk.
- Provide administrative oversight of the US plant Risk Management Intranet and EHS management systems and applications.
- Interface with legal issues and with corporate staff attorneys and outside counsel and work with Corporate EHS lead to negotiate with government regulatory agencies regarding fines, penalties and cleanup of contaminated materials.
- Coordinate training and development opportunities for plant EHS personnel.
- Manage and oversee EHS consultants and contractors. Review and negotiate consultant and/or contractor agreement terms and conditions necessary to minimize corporate risk and liability.
- Special projects may be assigned.
- Assist with gathering information for EHS due diligence for acquisitions and divestitures.
- Incumbent may be required to travel 25% of the time supporting various manufacturing sites.
Required Length & Type of
Experience:
- 7+ years previous extensive knowledge of manufacturing, and/or distribution processes along with Federal, State and Local EHS regulatory compliance.
- Should have experience in all facets of EHS including specialized advanced training regulatory interpretation, remedial investigation and property cleanup of contaminated materials, hazardous materials management, regulatory permitting, employee health and safety, industrial hygiene, and product safety.
- Incumbent should be proficient in EHS legal matters, financial reporting and risk management.
- Mastery of Environmental Laws and Regulations.
- Mastery in understanding Federal, State and local Safety regulations and compliance.
- Proficient with normal business software applications.
- Proficient organizational skills managing multiple on‑going projects.
- Proficient communication skills including both verbal and written.
- Proficient with basic chemical properties and attributes.
- Mastery of manufacturing plant processes with focus on EHS programs and interventions.
- Must be a good oral and written communicator.
- Must effectively deal with all levels of plant populations, including Sr. Leaders.
Must be good at problem‑solving, both for long‑term and short‑term issues.
Education Required- BS Degree in a technical field, preferably EHS.
- Experience with certificate programs like ASP or CSP, seminars, and CEU’s acceptable.
