Position SummaryResponsible for the organization’s compliance with environmental, health, homeland security laws, and government agency directives to ensure operational, local, state and federal objectives are determined and achieved while protecting the health of associates and the environment. Additionally, assist in evolving Artazn’s environmental processes to support changing business and external requirements.
Essential Functions- Accountable for managing facility efforts to comply with all local, state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to environment, health, safety and homeland security, including:
- Prepare and submit environmental reports and permit applications to meet regulatory compliance efforts
- Develop and implement training to support an environmentally safe workplace and surrounding community including training of emergency coordinators
- Appropriately respond to onsite environmental inspections and inquiries from the local, state and federal agencies regarding:
Air permit, NPDES permit (stormwater and wastewater), Hazardous waste laws (RCRA), Solid waste, EPCRA, EPA, DOT, DHS, Risk Management Planning (RMP), Process Safety Management (PSM), and Radiation - Review in a timely manner and inform facility management on all proposed environmental legislation and regulations that may impact the facility’s operation; coordinate responses to express the facility’s position
- If a noncompliance event has occurred, immediately inform facility management and provide corrective action options and recommendations
- Manage the Environmental Laboratory within budgeted resources to comply with applicable permits and ensure appropriate training and succession planning; develop and deliver cost‑effective environmental training to ARTAZN associates
- Complete other functions, including:
- Perform administrative activities necessary for the effective management of the department to support organizational goals and objectives
- Establish and maintain effective work relationships within the department, the company, and the community
- Acquire and maintain the professional competence, knowledge, skills and certifications necessary for satisfactory performance of all assignments
Education
- BS in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemistry or Environmental, Health & Safety from an accredited university
- Certifications in the following are a plus:
- RCRA Hazardous Waste Management
- Hazmat Ground Shipper (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). Environmental Manager (REM)
- Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
- Radiation Safety Officer
- Wastewater Plant Operator
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
- Five or more years of experience with environmental compliance responsibilities within a manufacturing environment with two or more in a leadership role
- Experience working in a chemical industry with highly regulated wastewater treatment systems is preferred
- Experience in implementing homeland security directives is desirable
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all levels of the organization, regulatory officials, and the general public when requested
- Able to use a systematic approach to solve problems and troubleshoot
- Self-motivated to start and finish new assignments with a sense of urgency
