Vic Hill Race Engines is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Automotive Engine Technician to join our high-performance engine shop. This position focuses on the assembly, machining, and maintenance of professional-level V8 racing engines used in competitive motorsports. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, takes pride in precision workmanship, and is committed to producing engines that perform at the highest level.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assemble high-performance V8 race engines to exact specifications and tolerances.
  • Perform custom machining operations, including fitting, measuring, balancing, and modifying engine components.
  • Blueprint engines using precision measuring equipment.
  • Inspect, clean, and prepare engine blocks, cylinder heads, crankshafts, connecting rods, pistons, and valve train components.
  • Verify critical engine clearances, bearing tolerances, piston-to-wall clearance, ring end gaps, deck height, and valve train geometry.
  • Operate engine shop equipment, including lathes, mills, honing machines, valve equipment, and other specialty tools.
  • Troubleshoot engine failures and identify worn or damaged components.
  • Maintain accurate build sheets and documentation throughout the assembly process.
  • Keep the shop clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
  • Work closely with machinists and engine builders to ensure every engine meets Vic Hill Race Engines' quality standards.
Qualifications
  • Experience assembling automotive engines or high-performance racing engines preferred.
  • Knowledge of internal combustion engine systems and performance engine components.
  • Ability to read engine build specifications, blueprints, and technical documentation.
  • Proficient with precision measuring tools such as micrometers, dial bore gauges, dial indicators, calipers, and torque measuring equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship.
  • Ability to safely operate machine shop equipment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational automotive education is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with NASCAR, dirt late model, sprint car, drag racing, or other high-performance racing engines.
  • Familiarity with engine blueprinting and balancing procedures.
  • CNC machining experience is a plus but not required.
  • Welding and fabrication experience is beneficial.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity to handle precision components and measuring equipment.
  • Ability to work in a machine shop environment with exposure to noise, oils, and machining equipment.
