Holston Home for Children is seeking a compassionate, organized, and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team. This position plays a vital role in supporting the physical and mental well-being of children and youth in our care by coordinating medical services, monitoring medications, providing health education, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
Job descriptionThe Nurse works under the direction of the Administrator of Educational Services and is responsible for coordinating clinics, monitoring psychotropic and other prescribed medications, providing direct nursing care to youth, maintaining medical records, educating youth and staff, and serving as a liaison with healthcare providers.
Essential Responsibilities- Coordinate and manage medical and psychiatric clinics, including medication monitoring, laboratory work, blood draws, documentation, and communication with providers, parents, and staff.
- Monitor youth receiving psychotropic medications and communicate concerns regarding medication effectiveness or side effects.
- Conduct health screenings and physical assessments for residential youth and foster youth.
- Provide routine nursing care, first aid, medication-related follow-up, and referrals when appropriate.
- Coordinate care with healthcare providers, residential staff, schools, and families.
- Administer immunizations, allergy injections, TB skin tests, flu vaccines, and other preventive health services.
- Provide health education and training to youth, staff, and foster parents on topics such as medication administration, universal precautions, and general health and wellness.
- Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with agency and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and perform other duties as assigned.
- Current Tennessee Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license.
- Valid Tennessee driver's license.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with medical providers, staff, youth, and families.
