Instructional Assistant / Enrichment Block Supervisor

Greenfield-Central Community School District, Greenfield-Central High School – Greenfield, Indiana

Position Purpose

Under the direct supervision of a certified staff member, assist certified professional staff with all students in all classroom settings to meet instructional goals and objectives of the school and district.

Essential Functions
  • Demonstrate reliability (attendance, punctuality, meeting deadlines).
  • Demonstrate skill and proficiency in carrying out assignments.
  • Possess skills and knowledge to perform the job competently.
  • Plan, organize and prioritize workload (for self and direct reports, if applicable).
  • Hold oneself accountable for assigned responsibilities; see tasks through to completion in a timely manner.
  • Work independently.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisor, peers, and stakeholders.
  • Work cooperatively with supervision or as part of a team.
  • Analyze facts, solve problems, make decisions, and demonstrate good judgment.
  • Display fairness toward all colleagues and students.
  • Assist and guide students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills.
  • Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned programs.
  • Assist in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needs.
  • Assist with record‑keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.
  • Assist with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and keep students on task.
  • Assist students in non‑instructional areas, such as supervising lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, corridor, study hall, and related duties.
  • Accompany students on field trips for supervision.
  • Assist students with special needs in all aspects of classroom instruction to maximize inclusion, learning, and achievement of IEP objectives.
  • Assist students with special needs with daily living activities to maximize participation in school learning activities.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher or building principal.
  • Demonstrate willingness to grow professionally by participating in development opportunities offered by the district.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Remain free of alcohol or non‑prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace.
  • Follow all applicable safety rules, procedures, and regulations governing assistance for all students, including those with disabilities or other special needs.
  • Understand, apply, and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel).
  • Maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees, and others.
  • Establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students.
  • Possess effective writing and verbal communication skills.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience working with children (preferred).
Physical Requirements
  • Stand for extended periods of time.
  • Lift and/or carry 25 lbs.
  • Work at a desk, conference table, or in meetings of various configurations.
  • See for the purpose of reading laws, codes, rules, policies, and other printed matter.
  • Hear and understand speech at normal levels.
  • Communicate so others will clearly understand a normal conversation.
  • Operate office equipment.
  • Reach in all directions.
