Summary of Duties and Expectations

The actions below allow the Director of Preschool and Early Learning (Birth to age
5) to support GC's Early Learning programming and GC School's Vision of "Learning for all - All for Learning".

Qualifications
  • Valid Indiana teaching license for the assigned grade, level, and/or subject(s).
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Certification in School Administration or Director.
  • Successful classroom teaching experience with preferred experience in a PreK-3 setting.
  • Preferred experience with students with special needs.
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
  • Demonstrates a record of successfully impacting student growth and achievement.
  • Shows a proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues, including the ability to create and nurture a professional community of adult learners.
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills including giving and receiving constructive feedback.
  • Exhibits a proven ability in using student-level data to guide instructional decisions.
  • Possesses strong early childhood pedagogical knowledge of current, research-based best practice particular to early childhood.
  • Displays excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work positively with others.
  • Flexible schedule: some work may occur outside of typically contracted hours and days in order to meet the needs of families and teachers.
Manager and Community Advocate
  • Maintains state and federal required staff records and ensures all staff meet state and federal requirements including annual training requirements.
  • Oversees and maintains all Paths to QUALITY accreditation and district initiatives.
  • Oversees summer K101 program in collaboration with Purdue University Extension.
  • Aligns programmatic decisions with NAEYC, the National Association for the Education of Young Children, and INAEYC, Indiana's local entity.
  • Works with all state and local entities to help to secure funding for families in need, including but not limited to, FSSA/CCDF, On My Way PreK, and other local groups.
  • Works closely with the special education staff to ensure compliance by coordinating and monitoring timelines.
  • Works with the TORs to ensure that appropriate instruction and accommodations are provided to special needs students.
  • Coordinates Child Find screening activities for students in compliance with IDEA and 511 Indiana Administrative Code Article 7.
  • Coordinates and completes all preschool intake meetings (for First Step transitions and "cold call" referrals). This will include making home visits and coordinating with the Preschool Assessment Team.
  • Coordinates with the special education teachers to oversee Individualized Educational Programs and serves as PAR (public agency representative) during case conferences to support preschool students and families qualified for services under IDEA and Article 7.
  • Works with staff to ensure students are placed in the most appropriate least restrictive environment (LRE).
  • Collaborates with families on ways to support early learning at home and advocates for and promotes Cougar Cubs Preschool in the community.
  • Lead or assist in completion of hands on student sanitary needs.
  • Manages hiring and evaluating of staff, managing enrollment, and overseeing the day to day operations of the program.
  • Supports the financial stability and budgeting responsibilities for the preschool program. This includes supporting the administrative assistant in collecting tuition and communicating with families regarding fees.
  • Maintains and updates the handbook for both staff and families for the preschool and childcare programs.
Curriculum Specialist
  • Bases instructional decisions on IN Foundations Early Learning Standards to analyze student strengths and target areas for improvement.
  • In cooperation with the Director of Elementary Education and the Director of Student Services, vertically aligns the curriculum with district strategic plans.
  • Works collaboratively with community preschool teachers to develop shared beliefs, common expectations, and similar learning experiences for preschoolers across the district.
  • Develops a deep understanding of the best practices for early literacy aligned with the research from the Science of Reading for early learners.
Instructional Specialist
  • Works with staff to develop a deep understanding of the best practices for early literacy aligned with the research from the Science of reading for early learners.
  • Models and educates others on student driven outcomes, purposeful play, and inquiry-based approaches to learning.
  • Works collaboratively with preschool teachers to make learning visible and document student learning.
