Job Summary
This position is responsible for overseeing the measuring and test equipment (MTE) control system at Indiana Automotive Fasteners (IAF). The individual will independently ensure that IAF’s MTE systems meet international, national, industry, and customer standards, manage the calibration and verification of equipment, conduct necessary repairs, perform studies, and supervise team members during MTE control activities.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Reviews international, national, industry, and customer standards for new or revised MTE requirements and assesses whether IAF’s existing documented practices are in conformance. If not, adds or revises them accordingly.
- Prepares and issues new or revised procedures or work instructions relating to measuring and testing equipment control.
- Conducts Gage R & R studies and determines the measurement uncertainty of laboratory testing equipment.
- Acts as the resident expert and guide for ABS QE and A2LA registrar auditors for MTE Control during third‑party audits and for customer representatives during second‑party audits.
- Continually works and coordinates using considerable discretion and personal initiative with managers, coordinators, tooling specialists, and autoclave operators regarding measuring equipment needs – both current and future.
- Maintains and adjusts the calibration schedule for MTE to assure IATF 16949 and ISO/IEC 17025 compliance.
- Determines and investigates the credentials of current and potential subcontractors and maintains and updates the approved subcontractor and supplier list to satisfy IATF 16949 and ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.
- Coordinates sourcing, pricing, and scheduling of outside subcontractors to perform calibration/certification services for measuring and test equipment as required by IATF 16949 and ISO/IEC 17025.
- Administers the calibration and verification of the process furnaces and measuring and test equipment and directs and performs the periodic temperature distribution studies of all production furnaces and ovens.
- Is responsible for the stability and robustness of Optical Emission Spectrometer testing using control charts.
- Purchases new measuring equipment either from A.S.J. or domestic suppliers, ensuring that ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 and ISO/IEC 17025 purchase order requirements are met, cost effectiveness is considered, and required delivery terms are specified.
- Examines and inspects measuring and testing equipment upon receipt to ensure conformance to the requirements specified on the purchase order.
- Maintains the measuring and testing equipment inventories, including standards, spare parts, etc.
- Performs, records, and reports periodic “Measuring Equipment Control Audits” to ensure that measuring equipment is maintained at its assigned machine(s) or process.
- Routinely repairs and maintains measuring equipment on the production floor and in the lab, including preventive maintenance.
- Maintains all records, both hard copy and electronic (Gagetrak software) for all measuring and test equipment.

Education And Experience- A college degree (BS) in a math, science, or engineering-related field, or 3 to 5 years of experience working with measurement and testing equipment (MTE).
- Certifications such as ASQ, CQT, or CQE are preferred.
- In‑depth knowledge and experience with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and ISO/IEC 17025 standards related to MTE.
- Ability to work independently with discretion.
- Strong organizational and supervisory skills.
- Proficiency in interpreting documents and writing procedures.
- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts, such as algebra and geometry, for measurement‑related calculations.
- Strong reasoning skills to troubleshoot and solve problems.
- Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and moving mechanical parts.
- Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions and moderate noise levels.
