Position Summary
The Technical Trainer serves as the lead educator, coach, and mentor for the facility's technical workforce. This role develops, coordinates, and facilitates structured training programs for Technical Associates, Machine Maintenance, Facilities Maintenance personnel, and other technical associates. Utilizing Training Within Industry (TWI) methodologies, adult learning principles, and industry-leading workforce development practices, the Technical Trainer systematically breaks down complex technical tasks into teachable, repeatable, and sustainable standards.
Acting as a catalyst for technical excellence, this role is responsible for continuously evaluating, refining, and modernizing the organization's technical training systems. The Technical Trainer serves not only as a subject matter expert but also as a trusted coach who develops employee capability, confidence, and career progression.
Success in this role requires the ability to build relationships, connect with learners at all levels, and create an engaging learning environment that promotes both technical competency and professional growth.
This position partners closely with maintenance, engineering, operations, and leadership teams to ensure technical associates possess the knowledge, skills, and behaviors necessary to support equipment reliability, operational excellence, safety, and continuous improvement objectives.
Minimum Qualifications- Education:
- Four‑year degree in a related technical field or 10+ years of industrial maintenance, engineering, automation, or manufacturing experience.
- Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of industrial maintenance, manufacturing, automation, engineering, or technical operations experience.
- Minimum 2 years of formal training, coaching, mentoring, workforce development, or instructional experience.
- Demonstrated ability to develop technical capabilities in others.
- Technical Knowledge:
- Strong knowledge of industrial controls, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Computer Numerical Control (CNC) systems, robotics, mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical troubleshooting, and manufacturing equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot and teach complex technical concepts.
- Communication:
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly to individuals with varying levels of experience and expertise.
- Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Systems Proficiency:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, and training management systems.
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or equivalent technical discipline.
- 10+ years of manufacturing, maintenance, engineering, automation, or technical operations experience.
- 3+ years of technical training, workforce development, coaching, or mentoring experience.
- Advanced experience with Robotics (Motoman, Fanuc, Toshiba, IAI, Yamaha), PLCs (Allen‑Bradley, Mitsubishi, Keyence), Human‑Machine Interfaces (HMI), Vision Systems, Barcode Scanning Systems, and CNC Programming and Troubleshooting.
- Experience leading continuous improvement projects, Kaizen activities, and applying Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Experience developing and managing skills matrices and technical career progression systems.
- Hands‑on experience deploying standardized training methodologies, such as Training Within Industry (TWI).
- Possession of one or more of the following industry certifications is highly desirable:
- Training Within Industry (TWI) Job Instruction Certification
- Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt
- Certified Maintenance & Reliability Technician (CMRT)
- Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP)
- Certified Technical Trainer (CTT+) or equivalent adult learning certification
- Project Management Professional (PMP)
- ISA Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST)
- NFPA 70E Certification (Electrical Safety in the Workplace)
