Summary
Support the department team members through efforts to achieve the departmental and company goals.
Serve as an example for other employees in the department.
Lead department with Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC) in mind.
- Maintain knowledge of all jobs within the department.
- Act as a student and champion of Toyota Production System (TPS) and Total Predictive Maintenance (TPM).
- Coordinate training for new team members and develop a cross‑training plan to ensure area and process coverage.
- Act as the first point of contact for team members, providing support and communication.
- Facilitate department start‑of‑shift meetings and communicate SQDC messages and expectations.
- Plan department work assignments and assign daily tasks; establish priorities and sequences to achieve 100% on‑time delivery to customers.
- Take necessary action to ensure each process sends 100% conforming product/parts to the next process, thereby promoting TPS and minimal inventories.
- Provide improvements to work instructions and procedures.
- Determine root causes and develop countermeasures for product nonconformances, machine or tool, process problems, and abnormal conditions; support Kaizen activities and continual improvement.
- Manage the Floor Management System, including developing, communicating and posting results.
- Hazardous materials training and compliance (for applicable areas).
- Support development and execution of the area’s function action plan.
- Assist with shift transition between incoming and outgoing area leaders.
- Step into production assignments as needed to provide relief for absences or emergencies.
- Manage abnormal conditions by communicating, analyzing and resolving issues.
- Lead Area 4S+ and enforce compliance with established standards.
- Communicate safety information, report incidents, enforce team compliance—including accident investigation, countermeasures, protective equipment, OSHA requirements and emergency action plans.
- Facilitate quality by auditing and ensuring that work instructions are complete and accurate and standard work is followed.
- Manage the performance of the area and team members, communicating promptly with the section manager.
- Complete non‑routine projects or assignments, such as participating in Kaizen events and helping to lead improvement processes.
- Act as an interim leader when the section manager is absent for a short term.
- Participate in hiring new team members and be part of the decision‑making process.
- Complete other assignments as deemed necessary by leadership.
- High School Diploma or GED. Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school a plus.
- Three‑year related experience and/or training (5 to 7 years of experience preferred) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must have ability to:
- Perform basic troubleshooting activities with minimal direction after training.
- Recognize bottlenecks and adjust plan or manpower as necessary.
- Read and understand Kanban and match Kanban to part.
- Use calipers for measuring parts.
- Use hand tools and understand required techniques.
- Identify problems and propose appropriate solutions.
- Read and interpret technical drawing, quality specifications and engineering specifications.
- Be familiar with industrial equipment and mechanical tools.
- Read the production schedule.
- Work in a Windows computer environment with proficiency in Excel.
- Look up work instructions or reference documents.
- Take initiative.
- Extend shift by 30 minutes on each end.

- Oriented to continuous improvement; make suggestions and improve processes and quality.
