Maintenance Supervisor

The Maintenance Supervisor plays a key role on the shop floor, combining strong leadership with hands-on technical expertise. This position is responsible for driving equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and ensuring strict adherence to safety and quality standards. The supervisor actively participates in troubleshooting and repairs, leads continuous improvement initiatives, and fosters a culture of teamwork, accountability, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, coach, and develop a team of maintenance technicians, typically ranging from 10 to 30 employees.
  • Lead by example as a working supervisor by actively participating in maintenance activities on the shop floor.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide training, and administer disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Promote and maintain a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement across the maintenance team.
  • Perform hands-on troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of production equipment.
  • Support and execute preventive (PM) and predictive (PdM) maintenance programs to improve equipment reliability.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues involving PLCs, electrical systems up to 480V, hydraulics, pneumatics, and robotics.
  • Ensure rapid response to equipment breakdowns to minimize production downtime and maintain operational efficiency.
  • Oversee the installation, modification, and commissioning of new equipment in the facility.
  • Lead and participate in 5S and continuous improvement activities to optimize workplace organization and efficiency.
  • Drive key performance indicators (KPIs) related to equipment uptime, mean time between failures (MTBF), mean time to repair (MTTR), and maintenance costs.
  • Identify root causes of equipment failures and implement sustainable corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Maintain a strong focus on waste reduction and process standardization within maintenance operations.
  • Schedule and prioritize maintenance work to support production demands and meet operational targets.
  • Coordinate closely with production, engineering, and quality teams to align maintenance activities with business needs.
  • Utilize computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to track work orders, parts usage, and maintenance history.
  • Manage spare parts inventory and maintenance-related expenditures to ensure availability and cost control.

Essential Skills

  • Proven hands-on maintenance expertise with strong troubleshooting and repair capabilities.
  • Solid electrical skills, including experience working with systems up to 480V.
  • Demonstrated supervision skills with experience leading and developing maintenance teams.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work effectively with production equipment.
  • Effective communication skills to coordinate with technicians and cross-functional teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics in an industrial environment.
  • Experience with PLC troubleshooting and controls-related diagnostics.
  • Experience in preventive (PM) and predictive (PdM) maintenance practices.
  • Ability to respond quickly to equipment breakdowns and make sound technical decisions under pressure.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement in maintenance operations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience overseeing installation, modification, and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Familiarity with robotics and automated production systems.
  • Experience leading or participating in 5S and other continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to drive KPI performance related to uptime, MTBF, MTTR, and maintenance costs.
  • Skill in identifying root causes of failures and implementing sustainable corrective actions.
  • Experience using CMMS tools to manage work orders, parts, and maintenance history.
  • Ability to manage spare parts inventory and control maintenance-related expenditures.
  • Strong organizational skills for scheduling and prioritizing maintenance work to meet production demands.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with production, engineering, and quality teams.
