Position Summary

The Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating manual and CNC machining equipment to produce precision components that meet quality and customer requirements. This role works from engineering drawings and specifications to manufacture parts safely and efficiently while supporting production, continuous improvement, and quality initiatives. The Machinist applies developing technical expertise to troubleshoot machining issues, maintain equipment, and contribute to a collaborative manufacturing environment.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate CNC and/or manual machining equipment to produce precision components.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work instructions, and specifications.
  • Perform machining operations while maintaining required tolerances and quality standards.
  • Select and install tooling, fixtures, and materials needed for production.
  • Inspect completed parts using precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, indicators, and gauges.
  • Troubleshoot routine machining and tooling issues and elevate complex issues as needed.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and maintain a clean, organized work area following 6S standards.
  • Monitor production processes and identify opportunities for improved efficiency and quality.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to support new products and process improvements.
  • Follow all safety procedures, quality requirements, and company policies.
  • Accurately document production and inspection results.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities and support root cause investigations when required.
Skills And Abilities
  • Working knowledge of CNC and/or manual machining operations, including mills and lathes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and basic GD&T requirements.
  • Understanding of tooling selection, cutting parameters, and machining practices.
  • Ability to produce quality parts within specified tolerances.
  • Proficient in the use of precision measurement and inspection equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with moderate supervision.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Willingness to learn new equipment, processes, and machining techniques.
Education/Experience Requirements Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3-7 years of machining experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience operating CNC and/or manual machining equipment.
  • Ability to read blueprints and use precision measuring instruments.
  • Basic understanding of GD&T and machining best practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
Preferred
  • Associate degree, technical certificate, apprenticeship, or equivalent training in machining.
  • Experience with CNC programming edits and machine setup.
  • Familiarity with CAM software.
  • Multi-axis machining experience.
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, medical, automotive, industrial manufacturing, investment casting, or related industries.
  • GD&T coursework or certification.
