JOB SUMMARY:

An exempt position which offers a team approach working closely with physicians and other clinicians to provide care to patients in acute care setting.

• The Physician Assistant will provide comprehensive patient care under the supervision and collaboration of designated physicians.
• This role requires assessment and management of patients across the continuum of care, including diagnostic evaluation, treatment planning, procedural or surgical assistance as needed, patient education, documentation, and care coordination.
• The Physician Assistant will function as an integral member of the clinical team, helping ensure timely access to care and positive patient outcomes while practicing within the scope of their licensure, training, and organizational policies.

• Ability to solve clinical problems using sound judgment, strategic critical-thinking skills, and evidence-based practice.
• Must demonstrate attention to detail in all aspects of daily work, including patient assessment, documentation, orders, and follow-up.
• Must demonstrate effective communication skills with patients, families, physicians, nursing staff, and all other members of the care team.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced clinical and surgical environment while maintaining patient safety and confidentiality.
• Demonstrates knowledge of applicable medical practice guidelines, organizational policies, and state and federal regulations governing Physician Assistant practice.

• Assesses patient status by obtaining health history through patient and family interviews, chart reviews, assessment of presenting illness, risk factors, family history, psychosocial situation, and cultural factors; performs appropriate physical examinations.
• Evaluates, diagnoses, and manages patients requiring care in collaboration with supervising and collaborating physicians.
• Orders, performs, and interprets appropriate diagnostic tests, laboratory studies, imaging, and other evaluations; seeks consultation from physicians and other clinicians as needed.
• Integrates clinical findings and diagnostic data to determine diagnoses, identify health risks, and develop individualized therapeutic plans.
• Develops and implements treatment plans, including prescribing or dispensing medications and administering injections, in accordance with medical practice guidelines, organizational policy, and applicable state laws.
• Provides pre-operative, post-operative, inpatient, outpatient, and follow-up care, as applicable to the assigned clinical setting.
• Assists physicians with procedures and surgical cases, including patient positioning, surgical exposure, incision closure, dressing application, order entry, and other duties within scope of practice.
• Provides patient and family education regarding diagnoses, medications, treatments, procedures, recovery expectations, preventive care, and follow-up instructions.
• Monitors patient response to treatment, communicates changes in condition to the appropriate physician or care-team member, and modifies care plans as clinically appropriate.
• Documents patient encounters accurately and timely in the medical record, including histories, examinations, test results, diagnoses, medications, procedures, treatment plans, and patient education.
• Coordinates care with physicians, nursing staff, therapists, care coordinators, and other interdisciplinary team members to support safe, efficient continuity of care.
• Responds to patient questions, telephone calls, portal messages, refill requests, and clinical triage needs in accordance with established protocols.
