Study Technician – Specimen Processing and Management (Animal Operations)

Location:

Greenfield, Indiana

Day time hours, and after full training must work every third weekend (both Saturday and Sunday).

• Learn to interpret and understand basic protocols.
• Learn good research practice (GXP) principles.
• Learn to operate various data collection systems.
• Learn basic technician requirements, including animal room requirements/upkeep, time/study management, data organization/review, QA/QC audit response, communication skills, and quality check procedures.
• Ability to work across groups with more than one species.
• Maintain client confidentiality at all times.
• Learn to understand requirements for study conduct.
• Independently run studies (basic study designs, multiple species).
• Learn how to perform basic clinical observations.
• Learn how to perform basic data measurements, including body weights, food consumption, tumor measurements, and body temperatures.
• Learn how to perform basic dosing techniques for various species, including oral gavage, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravenous.
• Learn how to perform basic sample collections (may include blood, urine, feces), and may learn basic non-histological tissue collections.

• Associate’s degree in animal science, biology, wildlife studies, or a related life science field.

• Experience in prior animal research.
• Experience with specimen processing.
• Experience with standard laboratory equipment such as scales, measuring devices, and pipetting.
• Ability to follow research study procedures and document findings.
• Good time management skills.
• AALAS certification is preferred but not required; training can be provided.

• Comfortable working with small and large animals in a research environment.
• Basic computer knowledge.
• Basic math skills.
• Ability to accurately read, record, and communicate information.
• Flexibility to work overtime as needed.

$22 per hour.
