Position: NineStar Connect Water Wastewater Apprentice Operator

Job Description

Nine Star Connect is seeking a Water & Wastewater Apprentice Operator to join our Wet Utilities Operations team. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, solving problems, and learning a skilled trade that protects public health and the environment.

As a Water & Wastewater Apprentice Operator, you will work alongside certified operators to learn the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of water treatment plants, wastewater treatment facilities, distribution systems, and collection systems. Through on-the-job training and formal coursework, you'll build the knowledge and experience necessary to earn Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) certifications and advance your career in the utility industry.

What

You'll Do
  • Assist certified operators with daily operations and maintenance activities
  • Learn water and wastewater treatment processes, equipment, and regulatory requirements
  • Perform hands-on tasks including cleaning, lifting, digging, and basic maintenance work
  • Observe and assist with sampling, testing, chemical handling, and process monitoring
  • Attend operator school and required training programs to prepare for IDEM certification
  • Maintain facilities, buildings, and grounds
  • Follow all safety procedures and company policies
  • Support additional operational and maintenance activities as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Indiana driver's license
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
  • Willingness to attend training, operator school, and industry-related educational programs
  • Ability to travel occasionally for training and professional development
Preferred Skills & Interests
  • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
  • Interest in water, wastewater, utilities, or environmental services
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Desire to learn and grow within a skilled trade profession
Working Conditions

This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy active, hands-on work.

  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Participate in on-call and shift work as needed
  • Lift up to 75 pounds occasionally
  • Work around mechanical equipment and utility infrastructure
  • Position requires regular onsite attendance and is not eligible for remote work
