Position Type: Transportation/Bus Driver

Job Summary: Under the direction of the transportation director, the Bus Driver operates the assigned school on an assigned transportation route. The Bus Driver is responsible for the safe transportation, loading and unloading of students to and from assigned destinations.

- Abides by all Indiana school transportation regulations.
- Provides safe and orderly transportation to and from school and school-related activities.
- Maintains an assigned schedule.
- Transports only authorized students.
- Discharges students only at authorized stops.
- Maintains student discipline while adhering to the student discipline process as outlined in the Board approved student handbooks.
- Abides by all traffic laws.
- Inspects the bus prior to each route or activity trip, and files inspection forms with the Director/designee.
- Maintains the bus in a clean condition and informs the transportation supervisor whenever a bus is received in an unsatisfactory condition.
- Immediately notifies the Director/designee if the route is running late or of mechanical failure.
- Informs the transportation supervisor of routine maintenance and repair required.
- Reports all accidents and files required accident reports with the Director.
- Adheres to all district health and safety policies.
- Remains free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout employment.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director.
- Communicates effectively with all members of the school district and community.
- Has experience supervising children, preferred.
- Communicates effectively in both oral and written forms.
- Exhibits patience, consideration, understanding, even temperament and calmness under stressful situations.
- Provides clean, safe, and reliable transportation to ensure that students enjoy the full advantage of school district programs and activities.
- Ensures that all activities conform to state school transportation guidelines.
- Responds to change productively and handles other tasks as assigned.
- Appropriately operates all vehicles and equipment as required.
- Supports the value of an education.
- Supports the philosophy and mission of Greenfield-Central Community Schools.
- Complies with all district policies, rules and regulations.
Required Driver’s License to operate a school bus in the State of Indiana.
Physical Requirements- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift 40 lbs.
- Ability to carry 40 lbs.
- Ability to ride a bus for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations.
- Ability to see for the purpose of reading laws and codes, rules and policies and other printed material.
- Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
- Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation.
- Ability to reach in all directions.
