Position Summary
A Driver – CDL (A) is responsible for safely operating a heavy commercial truck, a tractor trailer or a straight truck with a pup trailer, or other vehicle requiring a class A CDL. The Driver - CDL (A) ensures the vehicle complies with the Company’s safety standards, adheres to all regulations, and completes vehicle condition reports ("VCRs") daily.
Principal Responsibilities- Perform complete pre- and post‑operation inspection of the vehicle in accordance with Company policy.
- Safely operate the heavy truck along designated route to the disposal site, following route sheet, map and service each customer.
- Operate manual/automatic controls to lift, load refuse, operate compactor and dispose of material at the designated facility.
- Courteously interact with customers, dispatchers, and others to ensure timely service.
- Perform minor repairs to containers on site or in the container yard.
- Identify unsatisfactory waste containers and tag them per departmental procedures.
- Continuously monitor waste for unacceptable material and clean area around accidental spills.
- Maintain vehicle condition to minimize downtime and clean waste from containers.
- Complete required route/productivity sheets, VCRs and other reports.
- Maintain required productivity standards for the department.
- Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
- Actively participate in the Company’s ReSOP program.
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
- Good customer service skills; acts professional, courteous and cooperative toward customers and co‑workers.
- Good time‑management skills to ensure responsibilities are completed efficiently and safely.
- Good follow‑through ability; adheres to work schedule and addresses challenges as they arise.
- Ability to adhere to Company policies and promote safety standards; does not take inappropriate risks.
- Maintains pride in work; strives to achieve all goals.
- Two years prior experience driving commercial trucks preferred.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude to perform minor repairs to containers.
- Class A Commercial Driver’s license with air brakes endorsement.
