Job Title: Building Substitute (Long-Term ELA Focus) / Paraprofessional
Department: Grades K-12 (primarily 9-12)
Start Date: August 13, 2026
Reports to: Head of School or designated Administrator
Pay Range: Hourly Rate - $27.62/hr to $52.00/hr
GCVS is seeking a versatile educator. This position will begin as a Long-Term ELA High School Substitute Teacher. Upon completion of that assignment, the role will transition into a Floating Building Substitute and Paraprofessional to support student learning across the district for the remainder of the school year.
Responsibilities- Plan, teach, and grade in subject areas as needed under the direction of the building Principal.
- Lead students through successful course completion.
- Foster a virtual environment conducive to learning.
- Prioritize student needs so that each child may reach their fullest potential.
- Partner with parents and colleagues to manage course goals, curriculum, and materials that best benefit the individual needs of each student.
- Engage and nurture student learning and student relationships.
- Teach innovative live and flipped classroom lessons over a virtual platform.
- Promote creativity and excitement in the virtual learning environment.
- Direct academic and social support under the direction of the building Principal.
- Work 1:1 and in small groups with students.
- Work collaboratively with school staff as assigned.
- Partner with GCVS teachers to manage students’ needs.
- Be a team player.
- Participate in required GCVS and state trainings.
- Plan, prepare and create instructional activities.
- Create a positive educational climate for students to learn in.
- Personalize instruction based on student learning needs.
- Participate in ongoing training sessions.
- Follow and create lesson plans and modify accordingly throughout the year.
- Develop incentives to engage participants in class.
- Work with program coordinators to ensure initiatives are being met.
- Collaborate with building level administrators and colleagues.
- Associate’s/Bachelor’s degree in Education/Early Childhood.
- Massachusetts ELA Teaching Licensure 5-12.
- Experience working in an educational virtual setting.
- Proficient in Microsoft and Google Docs.
- Strong written/verbal communication skills.
- Ability to learn new technology tools quickly (e.g., learning management systems, web-based instructional tools).
- At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred.
- Associate degree preferred.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
