Job DescriptionAcademy of Early Learning is seeking a Building-based Substitute to provide instruction, and support, and to promote student learning in the absence of the regular classroom teacher or instructional assistant.
- Reports to the building principal or school secretary upon arrival at the school building for daily assignments.
- Review with the principal all plans and schedules to be followed during the teaching day.
- Consult with the principal and/or staff to resolve questions and/or concerns.
- Maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which they are assigned.
- Develops and maintains a positive learning environment.
- Works cooperatively with staff.
- Respects student privacy by maintaining the confidentiality of privileged information.
- Teaches the lesson outlined and as prepared by the absent teacher.
- Consults as appropriate, with the building principal before initiating any teaching or other procedures.
- Assumes responsibility for overseeing student behavior in class and during lunch and recess periods.
- Follows all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.
- Performs any other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as the principal or designee may from time to time assign and delegate.
SALARY:
Per the GEA Master Agreement Unit C Salary Schedule starting at $18.40/hour

Our preschool environment is designed to foster interaction among children and to promote learning through doing; in an active, prepared and safe setting. Opportunities for learning occur in individual, small, and large groups. Often, activities are arranged around themes such as colors, seasons, animals, etc. The schedule balances active play, exploration, and guided discovery with rest periods to:
* Support children in developing self-confidence, social competence and the enjoyment of learning
* Highlight the essential skills for early reading, writing, and mathematical thinking
* Recognize language is embedded in all developmental areas

* Use critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to discover new ideas and abilities
- Associate degree preferred
- At least one year’s experience substituting
- At least 2 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
