Baystate Franklin Medical Center is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Peer Mentor Doula (PMD) to join the Moms Do Care (MDC) EMPOWER Program in Greenfield, MA.
Peer Mentor Doula will provide support to Franklin and North Quabbin regions, with occasional support to Hampshire and Hampden counties.
This position is Grant Funded predicted through 2030
RESPONSIBILITIESPeer Mentor Doulas provide physical, emotional, and practical support to pregnant, postpartum, and parenting people (PPPP) with substance use disorder (SUD) throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.
This role is grounded in a harm reduction, recovery-oriented, and patient-centered approach. The Peer Mentor Doula supports participants across healthcare, home, and community settings, offering full-spectrum doula care, advocacy, education, and connection to treatment and community resources. The position plays a vital role in improving access to care, reducing stigma, and supporting family stability and recovery.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the MDC EMPOWER interdisciplinary care team to increase access to services for pregnant, postpartum, and parenting people
- Provide nonjudgmental, evidence-based support to address barriers to treatment, stigma, and engagement in care
- Support individuals at any stage of substance use or recovery, utilizing harm reduction and multiple pathways to recovery
- Offer full-spectrum doula services during pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum, including on-call coverage for labor and delivery
- Conduct regular in-person visits throughout the perinatal period, with increased frequency in the 6 weeks prior to birth and 8–12 weeks following birth
- Accompany clients to medical, behavioral health, court, and community appointments to provide advocacy and support
- Assist participants in navigating referrals, treatment plans, recovery plans, pregnancy plans, and birth plans
- Maintain accurate, timely, and complete client documentation, intakes, and required data collection
- Participate in regular supervision, team meetings, and MDC EMPOWER training requirements
- Communicate urgent issues, participant crises, or safety concerns through the appropriate chain of command
- Maintain flexibility to work in varied settings including hospital, clinic, home, community locations, court, and correctional settings
- Per-diem, 15 hours a week
- Weekend/holiday coverage for on-call schedule

- Valid Drivers License, required
- Lived experience related to recovery, addiction, family separation, and/or mental health challenges in the perinatal period
- Must have completed Doula certification or training
- Registered Mass Health Doula Provider, preferred
- Geographic, social services, and recovery community knowledge of Franklin County and the North Quabbin region
