Position Summary :
Valley Steel Stamp is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist for 3rd shift. This position supports overnight manufacturing operations by setting up, operating, monitoring, and adjusting CNC machining processes to produce precision parts that meet customer, engineering, and quality requirements. The CNC Machinist is expected to work independently, maintain production flow, follow documented procedures, and uphold VSS quality and safety standards throughout the shift.
Responsibilities- Set up, operate, and monitor CNC machines to produce complex precision components in accordance with work instructions, job travelers, prints, and production requirements.
- Perform machine offsets, tool changes, fixture adjustments, and basic troubleshooting to maintain part quality and efficient production flow.
- Use precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other inspection tools to verify part dimensions and conformance.
- Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, job travelers, and GD&T requirements as applicable to the assigned work.
- Conduct routine in-process inspections and document results accurately and timely.
- Identify and escalate nonconforming parts, quality concerns, tooling issues, machine alarms, and equipment problems to the Supervisor, Quality, or Maintenance as appropriate.
- Maintain machine cleanliness, work area organization, and proper part handling to prevent damage or contamination.
- Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of PPE, machine guarding, lockout/tagout awareness, hand tools, and established factory safety procedures.
- Support production goals by maintaining reliable attendance, following shift handoff expectations, and performing additional related duties as assigned.
Required :
Prior CNC machining or CNC operator experience required (at least 3 years); this position is intended for experienced candidates who can work with limited supervision.
Ability to reliably work the 3rd shift schedule:
Monday through Friday, 10:00 PM - 6:00 AM.
Basic math skills necessary to calculate dimensions, tolerances, offsets, and machine settings.
Ability to use precision measuring tools, including calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other quality control instruments.
Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, production schedules, quality requirements, and safety procedures.
Good communication skills and ability to work effectively with supervisors, coworkers, Quality, Engineering, and Maintenance personnel.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Preferred :
Proven experience operating CNC machines in a manufacturing environment.
Experience with machine setup, offsets, tool changes, and basic troubleshooting.
Knowledge of blueprint reading, GD&T principles, and precision measurement practices.
Experience machining tight-tolerance parts in a production environment.
Familiarity with continuous improvement, 6S, and standardized work practices.

Physical Demands & Work EnvironmentRegular work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to typical machine shop noise, coolant, oils, chips, moving equipment, and required PPE.
Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, reaching, and working at or around CNC machines.
Ability to lift, move, and handle parts, tools, and fixtures as required for the position.
Ability to use hand tools, inspection tools, and production equipment safely and effectively.
Ability to commute to Greenfield, MA 01301 and maintain reliable attendance for the assigned 3rd shift schedule.
