Role Overview

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide a safe and comfortable environment for clinical care.
  • Ascertain desired action using acquired skills to expedite the best solution and assist in putting solutions into practice.
  • Install and commission machinery using installation manuals to ensure safety and compliance with health and safety and statutory regulations.
  • Interpret detailed manufacturer installation manuals, specifications, technical data, wiring diagrams and schematic drawings for building services, systems, plant and equipment.
  • Complete Planned Preventative Maintenance in accordance with organisational and manufacturer recommendations, using appropriate tools and test equipment and recording details of work carried out to prevent breakdowns and maintain optimal operational ability.
  • Respond to breakdowns, evaluate the situation and take corrective action to ensure minimal disruption and damage.
  • Survey plant and equipment for safety, soundness and establish maintenance to be undertaken.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Served a recognised apprenticeship in Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or Plumbing. Equivalent to SVQ Level 4, Higher National Diploma, Modern Apprenticeship – Level 4, or Professional Development Awards (SCQF 8–9).
  • Knowledge of procedures for mechanical and gas maintenance and repair of electrical equipment; BTEC/HNC Level or City and Guilds plus relevant post‑apprenticeship training or equivalent experience.
  • Attend training courses as required by Estates Management and NHS policies, procedures. The post holder must undergo specialised training in systems and equipment to gain the in‑depth theoretical knowledge required to comply with laws, national guidelines and standards, and maintain CPD compliance.
  • Level 3 C&G 2391 Award in the inspection, testing and verification of fixed wiring systems.
  • Level 3 Award in the in‑service inspection and testing of electrical equipment (PAT).
  • Have successfully completed a recognised course of multi‑skilling training to enable full flexible working across all three disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of NHS Scotland Technical Standards, “Scottish Health Technical Memorandums (SHTMs)” operational and management procedures.
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • Preference is given to those with a minimum of an HNC qualification in a technical subject or who are working towards that qualification.
  • Full UK driving licence essential.

  • Hours:

    Full‑time, 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday + on‑call shift pattern. From 1 April 2026, the full‑time working week will reduce to 36 hours; pay will be adjusted accordingly.
