Position Overview
Provides strategic, technical, and operational leadership for all accounting, reporting, and governance functions related to the University’s associated entities, endowment administration, and investment activity. Ensures accuracy, transparency, and compliance across foundation and investment accounting; coordinates with outsourced investment management and custodial service providers; and leads accounting liaison with external advisors and auditors.
Works closely with University Reporting, Operations, Budget, and Advancement teams to ensure consistent financial integration, accurate consolidation, and adherence to the University’s Investment Policy Statement (IPS) and Investment Management Agreement (IMA).
Administers and directs the operations of the financial reporting unit to maintain and enhance the internal control system, ensuring compliance with state and federal guidelines. Manages internal control, judgment, and day‑to‑day activities, providing guidance for managerial decision‑making. Plans, organizes, and implements daily operations to meet targeted goals and deadlines, ensuring quality and timeliness of work.
Minimum Requirements- Mid‑ to late‑career with a Master’s degree and 2–4 years accounting or financial management experience; or Bachelor’s and 3–5 years accounting or financial management experience.
- Knowledge of higher‑education and investment accounting principles (GASB, GAAP, UPMIFA).
- Experience preparing or reviewing audited financial statements and reconciliations for multiple entities.
- Experience in FASB financial reporting or foundation fiscal management preferred.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
- CPA, MBA, or Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Experience managing outsourced accounting engagements and investment data integrations.
- Familiarity with UNC System financial reporting and associated‑entity governance.
- Proficiency with Banner, Raiser’s Edge, Fundriver, Quick Books, and investment accounting systems.
CPA preferred but not required.
Work ArrangementOn‑site – Employees are primarily in the office and/or have a critical job requirement that requires dedicated office space on‑site. Remote or hybrid work arrangement may be considered consistent with university and state policies.
