Accounting Technician

Primarily responsible for the accurate and timely processing of vendor, employee, and student payments within the constraints of internal and external accounting policies. The role includes matching all supporting documentation to process invoices, conducting research and auditing to resolve concerns raised by vendors or the University community, and ensuring compliance with University and State regulations.

• Process a designated section of vendor invoices and direct payments, ensuring timely and accurate entry into the Banner Finance System.
• Gather and verify supporting documentation (proof of delivery, purchase orders, departmental requests), scan, index, and maintain records.
• Edit and audit invoices for accuracy and completeness, matching documents physically and within the system.
• Maintain an up‑to‑date procedure manual for Accounts Payable and update as new products or procedures are added.
• Communicate with vendors, employees, students, and interdepartmental personnel to resolve billing discrepancies and provide exceptional customer service.
• Conduct routine peer audits on expense payments and assist with backup duties as needed.
• Prepare statements, run reports in Aggie Mart and Banner, and assist in software testing for system upgrades.
• Flag 1099 reportable items and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

• Minimum:
  High School Diploma or equivalency with at least one year of accounting experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Preferred:
  Two‑year Associate Degree in Accounting or Business, or a High School diploma supplemented by post‑secondary accounting courses.
• Experience in an office environment with Accounts Payable processing, bookkeeping duties, or similar accounting responsibilities.
• Strong detail orientation, good judgment, initiative, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Computer literacy: proficient with Microsoft Office, Banner Finance, and Aggie Mart; comfortable with spreadsheets and word processing.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact professionally with vendors and internal stakeholders.
• Knowledge of University chart of accounts, state fund reporting, and relevant budget policies and procedures.
