Job Overview
Position:
Revenue Tax Auditor I (NS) [Grade NC13]. Full‑time, permanent role based at the Raleigh headquarters with a hybrid remote schedule. Minimum salary $54,137, with maximum $87,654.
The primary purpose of a Tax Auditor I is to examine individual income tax returns and related records to ensure taxpayer compliance with North Carolina revenue laws.
Responsibilities include:
- Reviewing and auditing individual income tax returns to ensure compliance with statutes and making necessary adjustments based on accounting records.
- Maintaining an audit plan by selecting audit candidates, scheduling taxpayer interviews, reviewing provided records, and preparing audit reports for timely review.
- Communicating complex and technical information to taxpayers in a timely, clear, and professional manner.
- Performing audits efficiently while maintaining high quality and timely completion.
- Basic knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code and North Carolina income tax law.
- Basic proficiency with spreadsheet and word‑processing software.
- Basic knowledge of auditing and accounting principles and practices.
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Accounting, or a related field with at least twelve semester hours of accounting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A transcript (official or unofficial) must accompany the application to verify completion of the required accounting hours.
