Position: Financial Accountant - (Closing date - 17/08/2026)

About the role:

This role is based within the Finance Department, which plays a crucial role in assisting all divisions across the business.

You will play a key role in ensuring the integrity of the Group's financial reporting and statutory compliance. You will lead the year-end audit process, prepare statutory filings, and support the continuous improvement of financial processes and controls across the finance function.

This role requires excellent technical accounting knowledge, strong organisational skills, and the ability to build effective relationships with internal stakeholders and external auditors.

What we will expect from you:
  • Prepare annual statutory financial statements in accordance with UK accounting standards (FRS 102)
  • Manage all statutory reporting requirements and ensure timely submission of filings with Companies House and other regulatory bodies in accordance with the compliance calendar
  • Play a key role external audit process, acting as the primary point of contact for auditors and coordinating responses across the business
  • Prepare audit schedules, supporting documentation, and resolve audit queries efficiently
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant financial reporting and statutory obligations
  • Support the preparation of corporation tax information and liaise with external tax advisers
  • Prepare company VAT returns
  • Prepare monthly Group board management information pack
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the Group's financial control environment
  • Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and automation within the finance function
  • Assist with balance sheet reconciliations, and financial control activities where required
  • Understanding and oversight of key commercial contract reporting
  • Work collaboratively with operational finance teams to improve financial processes across the Group
  • Support finance-related projects, including systems improvements and process transformation initiatives
  • Provide technical accounting support and guidance to the finance team where required, including where updates in regulatory or accounting policy impact the Group

Qualifications:
  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified

Essential skills
  • Strong technical financial accounting knowledge
  • Experience preparing consolidated statutory accounts under UK GAAP (FRS 102)
  • Experience leading or managing external audits
  • Sound understanding of statutory reporting and financial compliance requirements
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Desirable skills
  • Previous experience within construction, engineering, or contracting sectors
  • Experience in preparation of corporation tax returns for a group of companies
  • Knowledge of CIS, VAT within construction
