Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or related field and two years of experience.

Position Overview

The primary purpose of this position is to expand the College of Engineering’s capacity to communicate its mission, research and impact through strategic, high‑quality storytelling and content creation. The role will plan, write and produce a wide range of materials, including feature stories, news releases, social media campaigns, and multimedia content, that showcase the achievements of faculty, students and alumni. By enhancing the college’s presence across digital and traditional platforms, the position will play a key role in strengthening brand identity, increasing public engagement, and supporting recruitment, fundraising and partnership efforts.

Function of the Organizational Unit

The College of Engineering at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University invites applications for this key leadership position. The College of Engineering enrolls over 2,500 students and offers ABET‑accredited undergraduate programs in Architectural, Bioengineering, Biological, Civil, Chemical, Computer, Electrical, Industrial, and Mechanical Engineering, as well as a CAC‑accredited program in Computer Science. At the graduate level, the College offers eight Master of Science programs and five Doctoral programs.

Work Hours

8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.;
Monday–Friday; occasional work on evenings.

Hybrid Work Policy

Employees work part‑time in the office to perform job tasks that require on‑campus engagement, with the remaining time performed at home.

Key Responsibilities

Knowledge – Technical
Assist the College Director of Communications with a wide range of writing functions; develop and maintain good working relationships with faculty, staff, students, department chairs, and center and institute directors; and work with the Dean to strategically advance the reputation of the College. Demonstrate a methodical and logical approach to visual/social communications (camera/smartphone use). Employ innovative solutions for effective communication to promote research, students, faculty and staff.

Strong writing and editing skills for web, social media, and newsletters. Experience with social media platforms (Linked In, Facebook, Instagram, etc.). Knowledge of content management systems (Word Press, Cascade, etc.). Basic graphic design skills (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva). Basic video editing and multimedia production skills (Premiere Pro, Final Cut, etc.). Experience with Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, email marketing platforms, analytics. Accomplish other duties as assigned.

Program/Project Management
Assist the Director of Communications to coordinate coverage of COE research and other accomplishments; approve photos and illustrations for articles; assist with drafting and editing opinion pieces and expert commentary. Manage content planning, editorial calendars, time management and stakeholder interviews; oversee communication initiatives such as newsletters, announcements, and flyers. Responsible for newsletter and magazine development, website content development and management.

Communication
Assist the Director of Communications with developing and managing communications media and marketing materials; attend and chronicle College events; compose news releases and articles; maintain a repository of photos, videos, press releases and articles; produce marketing materials and distribute them strategically.
