Description

The Department of Biology at North Carolina A&T State University, College of Science and Technology, invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in the field of Pharmacology, starting preferably in August 2026. The appointment is expected to be at the assistant professor level, but an appointment at a higher rank might be considered for exceptionally qualified applicants. The Department seeks a candidate who can develop a collaborative and innovative research program in pharmacology and/or toxicology related to animal models and therapy, molecular biology and signal transduction, systems biology, pharmacogenetics, toxicogenetics and precision medicine, or drug development and target validation with a focus on reducing health disparities.

The hired faculty is expected to show commitment to teaching excellence, teach Biology courses at the graduate and undergraduate level, develop courses and curricula, direct students in research, and provide service to the University and community. The ideal candidate will maintain a vigorous research program, secure extramural funding, direct the research activities of Ph.D. and MS students in applied biological science and related areas, and mentor undergraduate students.

A candidate whose teaching and research efforts promote the mission of the Biology Department and the strategic vision of the College of Science and Technology (COST) as well as the University is highly desired. Collaboration with colleagues from the sciences, mathematics, and technology areas is encouraged. The primary responsibilities for this position include teaching undergraduate level courses, conducting research, student advising, student mentoring and recruitment, curriculum development, conducting scholarly activities and all other activities required for tenure, in addition to engagement in accreditation procedures, program assessment and service to the department, College and University as needed.

Responsibilities

Instructional

  • Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments, and papers.
  • Prepare and deliver lectures to undergraduate students.
  • Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions.
  • Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
  • Compile, administer, and grade examinations, or assign this work to others.
  • Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
  • Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, and course materials and methods of instruction.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students.

Research

  • Keep abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional organizations and conferences.
  • Conduct research in a particular field of knowledge and publish findings in professional journals, books, or electronic media.

Administrative

  • Collaborate with members of the business community to improve programs, develop new programs, and provide student access to learning opportunities such as internships.
  • Supervise undergraduate or graduate teaching, internship, and research work.
  • Develop and maintain course websites.
  • Serve on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional policies, departmental matters, and academic issues.
  • Participate in student recruitment, registration, and placement activities.
  • Participate in campus and community events.
  • Act as advisers to student organizations.
Qualifications

Requirements: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline and a good research record. Rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Preferred: Outstanding research record. Experience in writing grant proposals and securing grants. Rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
